Sports Update For Indiana Sunday October 31, 2010 | Basketball NBA: Miami 101, New Jersey 78 NEWARK, N.J. (UPI) -- LeBron James pumped in 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds Sunday, sparking the Miami Heat to a 101-78 victory over New Jersey. The other two-thirds of Miami's "Big Three," Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade, also had good games. Bosh chipped in with 18 points and Wade contributed 17 points and seven assists as the Heat won for the third straight time after dropping their season opener. Miami overcame poor 3-point shooting in the victory, hitting only 5-of-16 from beyond the arc. The Nets were led by Brooks Lopez, who connected for 20 points, while Devin Harris and Derrick Favors each contributed 13 points in the setback. Favors also finished with a game-high 13 rebounds for New Jersey, which lost for the first time after opening the year with wins over Detroit and Sacramento. The Lions (2-5) were behind 19-14 early in the final frame when Stafford went to work. His 7-yard scoring strike to Johnson with 8:21 left in the game put Detroit up 20-19. The Redskins answered when Brandon Banks returned the ensuing kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown and a 25-20 Washington lead. But Stafford (26-of-45, 212 yards, four touchdowns) struck again with 3:12 left in the game. This time he found Johnson with a 10-yard TD pass and added a 2-point conversion to put the Lions up for good at 28-25. Spittle downed Jeff Sluman on the extra hole and captured his first Champions Tour title after birdying three straight holes down the stretch. He ended regulation with a 4-under-par 67, joining Sluman at 12-under 201. Spittle won on the par-three 18th at the Oak Hills course in San Antonio after Sluman couldn't match his par. Sluman had forced an extra hole thanks to back-to-back birdies on 15 and 16, also ending the third round with a 67. Larry Nelson, meanwhile, failed in his bid to become the oldest winner in the senior tour's history. The 63-year-old came in with a 1-shot lead but stumbled to a 70. He finished in third place with John Cook (68) and Taiwan's Chien Soon Lu (69) at 11-under 202. (UPI) -- Clint Bowyer emerged the winner after a confusing end to Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Talladega, Ala., in which NASCAR reviewed tapes to determine a winner. The 500-mile race ended under a caution flag after a major crash on the final lap that saw A.J. Allmendinger's car go airborne and flip upside down before rolling back over. Bowyer got credit for his second Chase victory this season, edging Richard Childress Racing teammate Kevin Harvick, after race officials finished their reviews. Bowyer also won the first race in the playoffs last month at New Hampshire. Harvick was given second place in a race that featured 87 lead changes, one short of the all-time NASCAR record set at Talladega earlier this year. Jimmie Johnson ended up in seventh place, taking a 14-point lead over Denny Hamlin in the Sprint Cup standings. Hamlin finished ninth.
