We've had a ton of rain here in Northern Tuscany, with all the flooding, landslides and other dramas associated with way too much rain. I'm hoping for a few sunny days like we had in Istanbul before heading to California next week.

I've often wondered why there weren't more museums that trace the development of European cities from the Medieval to the present. After all, we go, we look at the art and the churches, we have a couple of meals--but what do we know about the conditions, the cultural Terroir, of the place that spawned all these things? For the Belgian city of Ghent, a museum called STAM might be the answer.
