| | Finding the Perfect Domain: Search Tips from Our In-House Expert | Acquiring the appropriate domain name for your business is a critical part of its success. A good domain name will allow you to improve your marketing and visibility, traffic to your site, and your credibility.
However with so many domain names out there the process of choosing a single name can be daunting.
We asked our in house expert and Senior Sales Executive David Helgeson to shed some light on this issue: | | There are millions of domains listed for sale through BuyDomains; how do you recommend prospective buyers go about searching in order to find the best options? | You can either do a "Category" or "Keyword" search on our site. Category search is best if you have a concept in mind but no specific idea on the name. Keyword search is more direct.
Do an initial search; once you have results you can use site tools to focus the list.
On the right side of the page there are a number of filters you can apply to the search criteria.
For category searches: use the extension filter to select the TLD, or domain extensions of interest (e.g. .com, .net), set the price filter and choose a domain length filter.
For keyword searches: using the "begins with" or "ends with" filter is a great way to narrow a search, as is the word count filter. The word count filter enables you to look for a keyword-based domain with one additional word with it (e.g. red + cars + .com=redcars.com).
It is very easy to take a 4,000 domain keyword result and quickly narrow it down to a few hundred domains using these flexible search tools. | | What factors — beyond price — should be taken into consideration? | We suggest that you focus on the key attributes that are important to you: keywords, extension, brand potential, marketability etc. Doing a broad search allows you to make a list of names that could work for your project.
Once you have a list you can then look at cost and make a determination on what is the best value for investing in your site concept. If you limit yourself to searching by price, you may miss a great domain that could be perfect for your business. |  | Can't find the domain name you want?
