Obama's Asian trip starts in India

A historic Democratic defeat behind him, U.S. President Barack Obama travels to India Friday to begin a 10-day tour of Asia on security and economic issues.

Obama's trip -- coming just days after Republicans reclaimed the House of Representatives and dented the Democratic majority in the Senate -- has been criticized by analysts, who say it allows Republicans to set the message at home while he is abroad.

Pelosi mulls run for minority leader

WASHINGTON (UPI) -- Lame-duck U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says she's gauging support for a potential bid to remain the Democratic Party leader, but hasn't decided yet.

Pelosi, D-Calif., sparked speculation about her future when she told ABC News the day after Democrats suffered huge losses in the House en route to becoming the minority party she would poll the House Democratic caucus before deciding, The Hill reported Thursday.

Bomb blast kills 13 at Pakistan mosque

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (UPI) -- A bomb blast at a Sunni mosque in northwest Pakistan Friday killed at least 13 people and injured dozens more, officials said.

The attack occurred during prayers in the Darra Adam Khel area near Pakistan's tribal regions, considered a hub of Taliban activity, the BBC reported.

Officials said they expected the death toll to rise. Details about the blast were not reported.

Obama prepares for Asian trip

WASHINGTON (UPI) -- President Barack Obama, preparing for a 10-day trip to Asia, delivers a statement on the monthly jobs report Friday before he leaves, the White House said.

Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will depart for Ramstein, Germany, en route to Mumbai, the daily schedule indicated. Besides India, Obama will visit Indonesia, South Korea and Japan.

The first couple is to arrive at Ramstein Friday night.
