Super Duper
LA's least-boring live act

Going to see a band live is a risky proposition, though it's
probably not technically accurate to call Gallagher a
"band". Hedging that risk with craziness not involving
sledge hammered watermelons, Super Duper.
Super Duper's a local 6-piece funk-rock band whose live
shows are laden with over-the-top craziness ranging from
giant puppet costumes to homemade lighting rigs crafted on
helmets and drum kits, to insane songs about topics ranging
from sex at parties to random things they deem awesome, all
with on-stage energy driven by a duo they call the "horn
stars", who you just know have a ton of sax. Among the
nutsiness:
"This Song is F***ing Awesome": A jam about things that are
rad, complete w/ dancers in giant dinosaur/coelacanth/cowboy
skeleton costumes, and a mid-song "Facebook quiz" pitting a
marmot against a bear, which would totally tear off that
marmot's (north) face.
"Puppet Government": A waltzy oom-pah w/ actual German girls
in lederhosen leading the audience through dance-step sways,
but not dance step Swayze, because too soon. It will always
be too soon.
"Welcome to the Jungle": A horned up version of the G'n'R
classic is interrupted by "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", which
became a #1 hit in the '60s when first covered by doo-wop
group The Tokens, whose first names were presumably Dave &
Busters.
What's even better is that Ron Artest likes them! SD's
available for holiday parties, and Saturday's bill also
includes local bar-rockers Whiskey Saints, San Francisco's
groovy Forrest Day, and DJ Son of Stan, who also plays drums
for Ben Harper, who is only really risky when threatening to
"Burn One Down"/ come on stage with Dave Matthews.
