Keep tabs on your friends without the insufferable musings
Everyone wants to know when friends have done something important with their lives, though you might not want to refer to Joe Francis like that around other people. Helping you keep tabs on all your other friends, Newsle.
From a couple of sophomore comp-sci majors/ roommates at Harvard who originally agreed to build the site for the Winklevoss twins before they... eager to find out what their friends were up to without reading hours of self-aggrandizing tweets, Newsle's an online aggregator that cuts to the chase by scouring the Internets for real news "about" (not "by") your friends, while boldly contending to be "better at Googling people than Google itself", so... good luck searching the web for their site! It works like this: after creating an account, you'll be prompted to import your FB amigos/LinkedIn contacts; when all seven of those are in, the site's complicated algorithm combs through endless news pages/blogs, filters debilitating social media chatter, and carefully differentiates between common names, eventually (as in, a couple of minutes) culminating in an ever-refreshing feed of relevant, newsworthy stories about your buddies that don't begin with, "Casey Hurley is a fan of Pancakes". And in case your friends are only lame and becoming fans of pancakes, you can also put it to work following famous people, selecting them from 11 categories, including actors, authors, athletes, and even academics -- that's right, we're watching you, famed macroeconomist Nicholas Gregory "Greg" Mankiw!!!
For those who desire more interaction/are keen to stalk themselves, Newsle also lets users submit articles in which they're featured briefly mentioned, tweet and/or "like" stories, and eventually, have the ability to respond directly when negative press has gone wild.
