Front Range Snowbikes
Part bike, part ski, part free!
Is there anything more exciting than a fringe sport that combines two traditional ones? According to the sponsors of Slamball: yes! Specifically, Manswers. Prove yourself less fickle than Right Guard, and get even more extreme, at Front Range Snowbikes.
Pushing a downhill adventure-sport in which the daring cruise on mountain bike frames stripped of wheels and outfitted with skis, the Copper Mountain-based FRS' new-for-the-New-Year snowbiking program is offering free lessons and trial runs (every weekend, Tuesday, and Thursday) to any Thrillist readers with the stones to try it, which, coincidentally, will then need some serious icing. To gear you up, FRS's got an exclusive deal with Brenter -- the company that invented and patented the snowbike in '47 -- for their aluminum-framed rigs, all of which'll come with matching, even-minier skis that clip into your existing ski/snowboard boots for a stable base, which Van Halen is super jealous of. Michael Anthony is out of control!! Once outfitted, you'll receive a level-ground tutorial on basics like turning, stopping, and getting on & off the lift (apparently the area most ripe for embarrassment) before hitting the slopes, where the easy turning/stability setup allows for a much shorter learning curve than skis or a snowboard, meaning you can more quickly hit more advanced terrain, including tree-riding, where they promise you'll "ditch 98% of the people on the slope", just like too-cool Chi Psi brothers at Cornell. Chi Psi is also out of control!
Next season they're also planning to stock a backcountry bike that'll allow riders to "go uphill" and even "freeride", something Right Guard is just no longer going to give to Spike programming. Be warned, Blue Mountain State!
