'One in a billion' gold nugget to be sold RENO, Nev. (UPI) -- A Nevada mining geologist said he will auction a 6-pound, 4-ounce gold nugget that was brought into his office by a California prospector last year. Fred Holabird said the gold would be worth about $135,000 at current prices, but he believes it could fetch up to $400,000 at the March auction because it may be the largest California nugget in existence. Holabird said the lump of gold, called the Washington Nugget, was brought to his Reno office by a gold prospector who found it near the town of Washington, Calif., in 2010, The Sacramento Bee reported. The nugget was discovered by a property owner, whose name was not released, after it was uncovered by storms. "It truly is not one in a million," Holabird said. "It's one in a billion." Police: Drunken driver was stuck in bushes HARTFORD, Conn. (UPI) -- Police in Connecticut said a drunken driving suspect was arrested after he was spotted trying to free his car from a row of bushes. Hartford police said officers spotted Angel Guevara, 38, trying to free his 2002 Volkswagen Passat from the bushes about 1:30 a.m. EST Sunday, The Hartford Courant reported. Police said officer Aaron Vafiades administered field sobriety tests and Guevara performed poorly. The suspect, who refused a breath test, was charged with driving while under the influence and released on a promise to appear in court Jan. 20. Copyright 2011 by United Press International

Owner whacks Lizzie Borden museum SALEM, Mass. (UPI) -- The owner of a Salem, Mass., museum dedicated to Lizzie Borden said he decided to shut the attraction down due to rent and utility costs. Leonard Pickel said he decided to shutter the 40 Whacks Museum at the end of December after determining the attraction would not make enough money during the slow winter months to cover the high costs of the facility, The Salem News reported. "We're disappointed," Pickel said. "We were trying to be different and bring people to Salem." The museum was originally called The True Story of Lizzie Borden but the name was changed after the Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast in Fall River, which occupies the house where the infamous murders took place, filed suit. Lizzie Borden was charged with the murders of her father and stepmother in 1892 but was acquitted when the case went to trial. "There was a lot information presented. It was a crash course in what happened," Pickel said. "We tried to get an in with school groups, but we were never able to crack that nut." Copyright 2011 by United Press International

Parking survey yields erroneous tickets NATICK, Mass. (UPI) -- A Massachusetts town's parking clerk said some people may have received erroneous parking tickets due to a survey taken at a neighboring town's train station. Robert McCauley, 53, of Natick, said he was baffled to receive a notice informing him of a $25 fine for a parking ticket he was accused of incurring while his vehicle was parked at the Riverside Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority's Green Line station in Newton, the Boston Herald reported. McCauley said he called Bonita Legassie, the parking clerk for Wellesley, and she told him the ticket was mistakenly issued while the town was conducting a parking survey at the lot to see how many Wellesley commuters use the station. "It's standard practice for transportation planning," MBTA spokeswoman Lydia Rivera said. Legassie said the survey conductors used the same handheld devices to record the plates as they would to write tickets and one of the machines malfunctioned and issued tickets. She said "anywhere from one to 40 people" may have received $25 fines. Copyright 2011 by United Press International
