Portman, Firth, 'Speech' win SAG Awards

LOS ANGELES (UPI) -- The stars of "The King's Speech" were honored with the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Ensemble in a Film Sunday night at a ceremony in Los Angeles.

The movie about how Britain's King George VI overcame a debilitating stammer on the eve of World War II has a cast that includes Guy Pearce, Helena Bonham-Carter, Michael Gambon and Geoffrey Rush.

Henry Cavill will be latest movie Superman

HOLLYWOOD (UPI) -- Warner Bros. announced that British actor Henry Cavill will have the title role when the next Superman film comes out in 2012.

Cavill, 27, appears in the Showtime series "The Tudors," but is otherwise relatively unknown in the United States, the Los Angeles Times said Sunday.

Cavill is also starring in "Immortals," which comes out in November.

'Rite' No. 1 at box office with $15M

LOS ANGELES (UPI) -- "The Rite," starring Anthony Hopkins in a Roman collar, was No. 1 at the box office during the weekend with a lukewarm $15 million.

"No Strings Attached," with Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman, was No. 2 with $13.65 million.

All studio estimates of gross box office receipts are via Box Office Mojo.

'The King's Speech' honored by directors

LOS ANGELES (UPI) -- "The King's Speech" earned Tom Hooper his first Director's Guild of America Outstanding Directorial Achievement Award during the annual ceremony in Los Angeles.

More than 1,600 guests attended the 63rd annual event helmed by actor-director Carl Reiner at the Grand Ballroom Saturday.
