Sports Update For Indiana Saturday January 29, 2011 Baseball Basketball Golf Other Baseball Report: $1 billion sought from Mets owner NEW YORK (UPI) -- The trustee for the victims of Bernie Madoff is seeking as much as $1 billion from New York Mets majority owner Fred Wilpon, a source told The New York Times. The newspaper Friday cited an unnamed source close to trustee Irving Picard as saying it was possible he could be seeking that amount from Wilpon, his partner and Mets co-owner Saul Katz and their families for the victims of Madoff's multibillion-dollar Ponzi scheme. Picard filed suit against them in December for an undisclosed amount, alleging they had profited from Madoff's actions. Wilpon announced Friday he's seeking new investors in the Mets, but vowed he wouldn't gave up control of the team. "To address the air of uncertainty created by this lawsuit, and to provide additional assurance that the New York Mets will continue to have the necessary resources to fully compete and win, we are looking at a number of potential options including the addition of one or more strategic partners," Wilpon told the Times in a statement. The newspaper cited several unnamed bankers who said Wilpon was forced to cast a wider net for investors when initial efforts to find backers failed. Dustin Ware popped in 18 points and Gerald Robinson added 12 for Georgia (14-6, 3-4), which never held a lead. Casey's eagle came on the 13th hole and helped him to a 6-under 66 Saturday while Hanson eagled No. 9 for the second consecutive day and had a 5-under 67. They are at 16-under 200 after 54 holes. Darren Clarke had a 67 for his third round and James Kingston posted his third straight 67. They are tied for third at 15-under. Miguel Angel Jimenez, who was tied with Hanson and two others for the lead after the second round, shot 69 Saturday is alone in fifth, two strokes off the lead. Hanson opened with a bogey Saturday but answered with a birdie at the fourth hole, He had birdies at Nos. 7 and 8 before his eagle at the ninth hole. He added a birdie at the 11th hole to get to 5-under. Casey was 3-under on the day but three strokes back of Hanson until he reached the back nine's back-to-back par 5s. He reached both greens in two, made the eagle putt on the 587-yard 13th hole and two-putted for birdie at the 586-yard 14th in earning a share of the lead. Copyright 2011 by United Press International Other Fog pushes women's downhill to Sunday SESTIERE, Italy (UPI) -- Fog caused officials to postpone the women's World Cup downhill in Italy to Sunday morning. The racing at Sestiere was moved to Sunday, which could result in Sunday's scheduled combined event being moved to Monday. The U.S. Ski Association said in a written statement that the decision on the combined would be made by race official prior to Sunday's downhill. Fog also canceled Friday's training run.
