Sports Update For Indiana Monday February 28, 2011 | Baseball Beckett diagnosed with mild concussion FORT MYERS, Fla. (UPI) -- Boston Red Sox pitcher Josh Beckett suffered a mild concussion in a freak batting practice accident, Manager Tito Francona said Monday. Beckett was in the outfield shagging fly balls at the team's Fort Myers, Fla., spring training complex when he was hit in the left temple by a batted ball hit by a coaching staff assistant, The Boston Globe reported. The two-time all-star pitcher and 2003 World Series MVP left the field under his own power but was jolted by the blow, MLB.com reported. Beckett fell to one knee and was covering his head with his hand as he left the field. "He's exhibiting symptoms of mild concussion. He's got a headache. He's been evaluated already," Francona told the Globe. "We'll get somebody to look at him tonight and then when he comes in tomorrow we'll check on him again to see what level, if any, of a workout he can do or should do. We'll go from there." Bibby came to Washington in a Feb. 23 trade that saw guard Kirk Hinrich go to the Atlanta Hawks, but the 12-year NBA veteran was unhappy with the deal that sent him to the 15-43 Wizards. Bibby scored two points and had eight assists in two games with Washington. "We agreed to terms with Mike on a buyout of his contract, which gives us increased financial flexibility and opens up more opportunities for us to continue to develop and evaluate our younger players," Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld said. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Bibby remained eligible for the playoffs because he was waived before March 1.
