| AWARDS NIGHT UPDATE FOLLOW US NEWSLETTER OC WEEKLY CONCERT CALENDAR FEATURED PARTNERS | | Hello Indiana, 10TH ANNIVERSARY OC MUSIC AWARDS The 10th Anniversary 2011 OC Music Awards was a momentous celebration of local artists spanning a two month long Showcase Series leading up to the Awards night last Saturday March 5th, at the City National Grove of Anaheim. OC Music Awards is the only all local annual music event dedicated to furthering opportunities and success for our local musicians. Each year the two month Awards Season brings together over 100 local artists and the Orange County music scene for showcases, honors and commemoration of talent. The 2011 Showcase Series was an amazing journey with 35 local bands participating in free weekly live showcases at various venues spread throughout Orange County. The Showcase Series wrapped up last week with the Finals determining the winners of Best Live Acoustic and Best Live Band categories. The winners received the title to their category, the opportunity to perform at the awards, a four day recording session at Red Bull Studios, a full endorsement from Ernie Ball, $1,000 for Best Buy and Best Live Band winners also received a performance slot on the Four SoCal Vans Warped Tour dates. The Awards night was an unforgettable event hosted by Stryker of the World Famous KROQ with performances by Stacy Clark, Dahga Bloom, Micah Brown, Nancy Sanchez and the Evan Stone Quartet, The Steelwells, I & I, the Growlers and a special guest performance. Social Distortion was honored with the Orange County Impact Award in the midst of their largest album debut to date, Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes. World renowned tuba soloist and longtime Talent Casting and Booking Director of Disneyland, Stan Freese, received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his career of achievements and contribution to our music community. THE OC MUSIC AWARDS AT THE CITY NATIONAL GROVE OF ANAHEIM By Brandon Ferguson The final awards show, held Saturday night at the City National Grove of Anaheim, was a well-produced, smoothly run affair, thanks to the efforts of directors Luke Allen and Ashley Eckenweiler. It lived up to its promise of offering local musicians the opportunity to get some well-deserved exposure. And the event didn't disappoint, offering its fair share of rousing live performances and surprise winners. Click here to read more » STAN FREESE - THAT GUY WITH THE SPEEDO, PLAYING THE TUBA, WHO IS WAY MORE PUNK THAN ANYONE ELSE By Lilledeshan Bose Stan Freese, one of the most popular tuba soloists in the country, was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the OC Music Awards. Freese, who has booked entertainment for the Walt Disney Co. for more than 40 years (he's been Director of Bands at the Walt Disney World Resort, Show Director for Tokyo Disneyland, and Talent and Casting Director for Disneyland), is probably one of the most punk-rock tuba players ever. The title of Best Indie went to local band Kiev on Saturday night at the Grove. Along with the title came an opening performance slot for The Holidays and poolside at the Luxor pre-party for Red Bull SoundClash Las Vegas, this Saturday March 12! Kiev will be staying in style and attending Red Bull SoundClash featuring Cee Lo Green vs. The Ting Tings at the custom outdoor venue built form the ground up on the Vegas strip just for this night.
