IPhone -AT&T to Support iPhone 4 Personal Hotspot on March 11

Apple (News - Alert) had a very busy day on Wednesday, introducing the iPad 2 and the next iteration of the company's mobile operating system, iOS 4.3. The tech giant's new OS will offer a variety of new enhancements, highlighted by a Personal Hotspot feature for sharing an iPhone 4's Wi-Fi data connection with other mobile devices.

With the Verizon iPhone already equipped with a mobile hotspot, AT&T (News - Alert) users quickly began to question when they would be offered the same functionality. Worry not. AT&T confirmed to Electronista on Wednesday that it will support the new Personal Hotspot feature on March 11, the same day that iOS 4.3 is available for download.

AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel said that iPhone (News - Alert) owners who wish to share their data connection with other mobile devices will need to sign up for the DataPro iPhone Tethering plan, which adds another 2 GB of data for an additional $20.

In total, users will have to fork over $45 per month for a combined 4 GB of data, which can be split between the iPhone 4 and other connected devices. Those who exceed the 4 GB allotment will be charged $10 for each additional gigabyte.

The plan is in line with Verizon's (News - Alert) pricing, and the hotspot application that AT&T currently offers to owners of the recently launched HTC (News - Alert) Inspire 4G. However, AT&T failed to detail the number of mobile devices that can be simultaneously connected to the iPhone 4. Verizon currently allows users to sync up to five other devices to its handset.

AT&T customers had reason to worry that the carrier would be slow to provide support for the personal hotspot. AT&T announced its intention to offer tethering support for its iPhone soon after iOS 3.0 came out, but forced customers to wait a full year until it actually launched the feature.

iPad 2, What You Need to Know

By: Rich Tehrani
Apple has done it again with the iPad 2 - it has a dual-core A5 chip which is up to nine-times faster as well as two cameras for FaceTime communications and a self-cleaning cover which comes in a plethora of colors and magnetically attaches to the device which still boasts  battery life of 10 hours. As usual with Apple, they think things through far better than other companies and their new cover also folds in a number of ways allowing it to double as a stand in both landscape and portrait modes.

The screen improves as well with LED-backlighting which is common on higher-end televisions. There is also a three-axis gyroscope which works in conjunction with the accelerometer and compass to give the software infinite information about what is happening with the device. Expect iPad gaming to get even better.
