Sunday May 15th: Save the date!
At some point in the next few weeks, we'll be announcing the details, but this much
is certain: we're having our not-quite-annual Bobolink Beltane Festival on Sunday
afternoon, May 15th.
Beltane is the Celtic spring fertility festival, traditionally celebrated on May
first, or Mayday. It's a celebration of the return of spring, and most importantly
to any pastoral people, the return of estrus to the herd.
We'll celebrate with food, music, ales from the Ship Inn, and possibly some dancing.
Because of schedule conflicts (The D'artagnan Duckathlon is on May 1st this year),
we're having our Beltane on the Ides of May: think of it as Eastern Orthodox Beltane!

Killer Bee Ale.
Tim Hall, the ship's publican and master brewer, created Killer Bee Ale by fortifying
the wort of his ESB ale with the Tassot [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?llr=b98ul5bab&et=1104920788254&s=9622&e=001yOxxx32-AA_b6UF5NOcD1LefyVmRH7cxWNY-sh0TDJeEJUvZdqlAp6QdA4Tx2EWUzgdfF5SlolVGAecYg6lwfO7e6d1t6Og2fsHnmvcNCxsDxGERpXa2kOiRHjDvmYxj]'s
honey. The result is an ale that is definitely not sweet, but rather it has a lovely,
dry, floral "sting" in the finish.
Nina and I will be there with cheese to sample and sell, and Bea and Jean-Claude
will be sampling and selling their honey, candles, and other goodies from the hive.
You might consider coming in for dinner as well: Tim's menu now includes a Bobolink
Burger (roll and cheese by us, beef from the 'hood), and a Bobolink "Mac and Cheese
for Grownups", along with specials and really fine implementations of British pub
grub (Tiddy Oggie, anyone?)

River. The weather report does not auger well, but it never snows inside the Ship
Inn.

Farm Visits
Our farm store is in full swing, and will be open every Friday 12-5 and Saturday
and Sunday 9-5, with tours when the weather is favorable.
We still have some local lamb, and ground beef from our own herd.
At the farm you can sample and buy our cheeses, breads, meats, and some other fine
farm products from the region, including eggs, pastured chicken, cured duck from
Hudson Valley Foie Gras, the very best honey from our neighbors Bea & Jean-Claude,
and other goodies.

Coming in April:Matzah Making Workshops
Here's a pleasant springtime thought to meditate upon--in justa few weeks, you can
come and make matzah in our wood-fired oven!
We grind whole wheat berries, add some well water and a bit of salt, roll them
out by hand and bake them on the hot hearth bricks of our oven.
With the intense heat stored in the hearth, they crisp up and get golden in seconds,
little round matzot, which come out looking like they were baked on a flat rock
in the Sinai.
This is very much a hands-on event, and even small children are welcome. This is
an ideal event for grandparents and grandchildren to do together.
We charge $10 per person, and you get to keep the matzoh that you make, which is
guaranteed to be 100% rabbinical-certification free!
This class is recommended for children over 2, and each child under 7 must have
an adult to supervise them.
These workshops have sold out quickly in past years, so don't delay, or you may
be left wandering in the desert.
