Lots of investment activity with another cleantech startup getting funding.  There were at least 5 similar startups that announced seed or early stage funding this week.
 

Alta Devices raised $72 million from big name investors
From Alta Devices

Alta is focused on improving the economics of high-efficiency solar, and is still a development stage company. To-date they have garnered support from August Capital, Kleiner Perkins, DAG Ventures, Dow Chemical, Energy Technology Ventures, and several others. This is quite a big raise for a company still in the R&D phase.
 

New Energy Star Standards Require 40 Percent More Efficient TVs, Cable and Satellite Boxes

This is a big change to the current Energy Star requirements and will certainly push manufacturers to increase energy efficiency of their devices.
 

Sapphire Energy gains funding and forms partnership with Monsanto
From Sapphire Energy

Sapphire had previously raised over $100 million to develop crude, algal-produced fuels as a drop-in replacement for gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel. This development with Monsanto may open the door in the future for an increased platform to commercialize their product.
 

Nexterra raises $15 million for small-scale biomass heat & power
From Nexterra

This is a solid funding round for a distributed biomass gasification generation technology.
 

Rolls Royce released its electric vehicle prototype
From Rolls Royce

Classic Rolls luxury, modern technology - including a 71 kWh li-ion battery pack and nearly 600 ft-lbs of torque.
