'Hobbit' starts shooting in New Zealand

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (UPI) -- Warner Bros. says production has begun in New Zealand on "The Hobbit," writer-director Peter Jackson's two-part adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy novel.

The prequels to "The Lord of the Rings" blockbusters have screenplays by Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, Guillermo del Toro and Peter Jackson. They will be shot consecutively in digital 3D at Stone Street Studios and on location around New Zealand. The movies are planned for release in late 2012 ...

Paxton didn't love 'Big Love' finale

LOS ANGELES (UPI) -- The producers of "Big Love" say Hollywood actor Bill Paxton didn't initially love the plans for the polygamy-themed show's series finale.

Paxton's character, Bill Henrickson, was shot and killed in Sunday night's episode but his multiple wives kept their family together after his death, The Hollywood Reporter said.

"We were in the room when Bill read the script. … Bill wasn't happy," producer Will Scheffer told NPR's "Fresh Air Monday."

Taylor booted from 'Celebrity Apprentice'

NEW YORK (UPI) -- Former supermodel Niki Taylor became the latest star booted from the business-themed reality show "The Celebrity Apprentice" in New York.

The show's judge and producer, real-estate mogul Donald Trump, fired project leader Taylor after her team lost a challenge Sunday to create a display in Manhattan to promote RV camping. As she met with Trump in the boardroom at the end of the episode, she took the blame for her team's failure.

TV Land orders three sitcoms

NEW YORK (UPI) -- The U.S. cable network TV Land says it has ordered two new scripted series -- "Happily Divorced" and "The Exes" -- and renewed the sitcom "Retired at 35."

The network recently placed a 24-episode order for Season 3 of its series "Hot in Cleveland."

"Happily Divorced" marks Fran Drescher's return to television. The cast includes John Michael Higgins, Tichina Arnold and Rita Moreno. The show is to premiere June 15.
