What's Going On in Israel's Startup Community
ThinkNext 2011
When: Sun Mar 20, 4:30pm
Where: Hangar 11, Tel Aviv Port
ThinkNext is Microsoft Israel R&D Center Innovation convention. In the first part of the event, 20 Israeli startups will present their products and ideas to the crowd along with microsoft's own R&D people that will present their own projects. In the second part of the event, there will be several lectures including a keynote from Qi Lu, VP Online services and Microsoft Corp.
Women ThinkNext 2011

This event brings to the stage women engineers, executives and entrepreneurs and will provide quality sharing of information and networking among the Israeli women hi-tech community.
Software Craftsmanship in Israel Meetup
When: Tues Mar 22, 6:00pm
Where: HaSolelim 5 Tel Aviv Jaffa Israel
How to utilize efficiently Programming Languages? Lectures: -Dynamic languages seem to be more concise and less verbose than their Static counterparts. However, using Dynamic languages efficiently requires a different approach. During the first part of our meeting Reuven Lerner will demonstrate the differences between Dynamic and Static languages and present the right approaches to utilize the full power of a Dynamic language. -While general purpose languages can solve any problem, the creation of special-purpose languages for expressing problems and solving a particular problem domain is highly efficient. During the second part of our meeting Dror Helper will explain and demonstrate what are Domain Specific Languages (DSLs) and how they can be used to solve problems in a particular domain.

David Malouf is currently a Professor of Interaction Design in the Industrial Design Department of the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD). Before taking this position, David was a Sr. Interaction Design for Motorola Enterprise Mobility where he designed software, webware, and hardware interactions and interfaces. Motorola was the last in a 15-year journey of practicing interaction design, information architecture, ui design, project management and other roles and positions working almsot exclusively with thin client technologies. Dave will talk about: What is design, what makes it special, how to think like a designer? What are the goals and principles you need to craft for your organization to have an ear towards the ground of design & user experience? What are the special skills and activities that are specific to user experience designers? How do YOU do them? When should you get help?
