Obama touts U.S. education

BOSTON (UPI) -- President Barack Obama told students in Boston Tuesday education reform requires "partnerships" in the community as well as a national policy.

"We need to recognize that the true path to reform has to involve partnerships between teachers and school administrators and communities," he told students at the TechBoston Academy. "And we'll need a national education policy that tries to figure out how do we replicate success stories like TechBoston all across the country....

11 Egyptians die in Coptic-Muslim clash

CAIRO (UPI) -- Overnight clashes between Christians and Muslims killed 11 people near Cairo, the Egyptian Health Ministry said Wednesday.

It was the worst violence since the downfall of President Hosni Mubarak last month.

Six Christians and five Muslims were shot dead, security sources told The New York Times, and about 100 people were wounded.

Pitt given 300-year-old letter to Leibniz

PITTSBURGH (UPI) -- The University of Pittsburgh has unveiled a donated letter written to 18th century mathematician-philosopher G.W. Leibniz and a rough draft of his reply.

Nicholas Rescher, a Pitt philosophy professor, said his father, a refugee from Nazi Germany, bought the letter immediately after World War II, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported. Rescher has been at Pitt since 1961 and began donating his collection of rare books and other items to the university last year. <...

Nuns report $2 million stolen

ZARAZAGO, Spain (UPI) -- Nuns from a convent in northern Spain say about $2 million was stolen from a wardrobe where they hid the money.

The door into the Santa Lucia convent in Zarazoga had been forced open, but the nuns told police they had no idea who the thief could be, Think Spain reported Wednesday.

The money, which consisted of 500-euro bills, was packed into plastic bags and had been earned from years of restoration work on old manuscripts and books.
