LOS ANGELES (UPI) -- An executive producer of "The Simpsons" says he understands why some TV networks are pulling episodes of the U.S. show that refer to nuclear disaster.

Numerous installments of the long-running animated series feature jokes about the nuclear power plant where character Homer Simpson works.

Lady Gaga raises $1.5M for Japan relief

SAN FRANCISCO (UPI) -- Social game developer Zynga says pop star Lady Gaga has donated $1.5 million to its fundraising initiative through the sales of her Japan Prayer Bracelets.

The initiative is to support the relief efforts of Save the Children and the American Red Cross following the devastating March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

J.R. Moehringer pens first novel

NEW YORK (UPI) -- New York publishing house Hyperion says it plans to publish a first novel by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist-memoirist J.R. Moehringer.

Set for release in Fall 2012, the as-yet-untitled book is a work of historical fiction about infamous U.S. bank robber Willie Sutton. Sutton robbed 100 banks between 1925 and 1950, made off with $2 million and broke out of three "escape-proof" prisons, all without firing a single shot, the publishers noted.

Amy Adams lands Lois Lane role

BURBANK, Calif. (UPI) -- U.S. actress Amy Adams is to play intrepid reporter Lois Lane in director Zack Snyder's upcoming Superman movie, its producers said.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures made the casting announcement Sunday.
