Sports Update For Indiana Friday March 18, 2011 | | Basketball COL BKB: Florida State 57, Texas A&M 50 CHICAGO (UPI) -- Derwin Kitchen had a team-high 15 points and 10th-seeded Florida State dominated the second half of a 57-50 NCAA tournament upset of seventh-seeded Texas A&M. The Seminoles (22-10) advance to a third-round match-up against Southwest Region No. 2-seeded Notre Dame, which opened its tournament play with a 69-56 win over Akron earlier Friday. Texas A&M ended its season with a 24-9 record. The Aggies started very slowly, not getting on the board until the game was 7:16 old, but A&M fought back and was ahead before the half was over. The Aggies got a short shot from David Loubeau that put them up 31-26 with 17:38 to play but Kitchen then connected on a 3-point shot that sent Florida State off on a 13-0 run that turned the game around. Bernard James had six points of his 10 points in the spurt and Michael Snaer capped it with a jump shot that made the score 36-31 with 11:31 to go. The Aggies pulled back to within one but 3-pointers from Kitchen and Chris Singleton stretched the lead. Texas A&M was limited to 3.14 percent shooting by Florida State. Khris Middleton paced the Aggies with 16 points. Wall had a pair of front-side birdies and an eagle at the 12th hole in moving to 9-under 133 halfway through the tournament. He's two strokes up on Richard Green, who also shot 4-under 67, and Raphael Jacquelin, who had a 2-under 69 in the second round. Five players, including first-round co-leader Stephen Dodd, are tied for fourth at 5-under 137. Dodd shot 1-over 72 Friday. He entered the day tied for first with Jose Manuel Lara, who ballooned to a 4-over 75 and is at 2-under and tied for 20th for the tournament. Wall's birdies came at Nos. 4 and 7. The eagle at the par-5, 530-yard 12th hole was worth the lead. Green had six birdies but also had a double-bogey 6 at the 10th hole. Jacquelin also had a double bogey -- his came at the sixth hole -- and four birdies. The finish was worth 30 points in the overall standings and moved her into first place, just three points ahead of American Lindsey Vonn with one more race to go in the season. Riesch finished with a combined-run time of 1 minute, 29.99 seconds, nearly a full second faster than Vonn. "Today wasn't exactly the result I was hoping for but it was still points and it kept me in the hunt," Vonn said. "I'm only three points behind now. I really hope we race tomorrow and I'm going to give it my best shot." Tina Maze of Slovenia won the slalom race in 1:29.33. Marlies Schild of Austria was in second, 5/100ths of a second behind Maze. Veronika Zuzulova of Slovakia took third, just 2/100ths of a second ahead of Riesch. The women's season concludes Saturday with the giant slalom but warm, wet conditions in Lenzerheide could result in cancellation of the race, which would automatically give the title to Riesch.
