Hill, who gained at least 1,000 yards in five of his seven years with the Oilers from 1985 to 1991, died late Friday at Atlanta's Piedmont Hospital after suffering a pair of strokes Thursday, The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported. He was first stricken while playing golf in the Atlanta area, the newspaper said. Hill teamed with quarterback Warren Moon and in the late 1980s to fuel its "run-and-shoot" offense, in which Moon hooked up with Hill and fellow receivers Ernest Givins, Haywood Jeffires and Curtis Duncan to form a powerful aerial attack. Hill, a Georgia Tech product, hauled in 64 passes for 1,169 yards and nine touchdowns in 1985, his first with the Oilers. "I'm shocked," Moon told The Houston Chronicle. "I can't believe it. Drew meant so much to us as a player and as a person. I counted on him so much. He was the consummate professional. It's just so sad." PAUL, Minn. (UPI) -- Antoine Vermette scored on a Minnesota turnover with 34 seconds left in overtime Saturday, handing the Columbus Blue Jackets a 5-4 victory. Wild defenseman Brent Burns partially fanned on a clearing attempt from behind his own net, putting the puck right on the stick of Vermette. The Blue Jackets' center fired it past Niklas Backstrom for the game-winner. The overtime goal salvaged only the second win in 11 games for Columbus, which had squandered a two-goal lead late the contest. Rick Nash scored two goals and added a pair of assists, Sami Lepisto contributed three helpers and Mathieu Garon stopped 32-of-36 shots for the Blue Jackets. Antti Miettinen and Pierre-Marc Bouchard each scored in the final 5:07 of regulation to rally the Wild, but they couldn't finish and fell to 2-6-2 in their last 10 games. Backstrom ended with 28 saves for the Minnesota.
