Suspected NATO strike kills Libyan rebels

MISURATA, Libya (UPI) -- Officials and rebel leaders were trying to determine the source of an airstrike in Misurata, Libya, that killed 10 rebels, an anti-government spokesman said.

The opposition said it was unclear whether NATO aircraft or weaponry from Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's forces killed the men Wednesday along a road that leads to Misurata's ports, The Washington Post reported Thursday. Somalian army clashes with al Shabaab

BELET HAWO, Somalia (UPI) -- More than 30 members of al Shabaab have died in fighting with the Somali army in southern Somalia, government officials said.

The fighting Thursday in the village of Tulo Barwago, near the regional capital of Gedo, left dozens of people wounded, the Shabelle Media Network reported.

Mohammed Abdi Kalil, governor of the Somali government in the Gedo region, said the al Shabaab fighters weren't as powerful as first thought.

Asbestos a danger to workers in Japan

TOKYO (UPI) -- Japanese officials say they are setting up an asbestos education program to protect workers clearing debris from the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

Asbestos, once widely used as a construction material, can cause mesothelioma and lung cancer. It can take up to 30 years for the diseases to develop.

"We hope they will work with the danger of asbestos in mind," an official with the health ministry said.

Nazi salute costs man standing in party

PARIS (UPI) -- A Nazi salute cost a young politician his position in France's far-right Front National Party, officials said.

Marine Le Pen, leader of the FN, expelled 20-year-old Alexandre Gabriac from the party after a photograph of him saluting a Nazi flag was published on a magazine Web site, Radio France Internationale reported.

Gabriac, who represented the FN on the Rhone-Alps regional council, claimed the picture was a montage.
