Baseball

MLB: San Francisco 3, St. Louis 2

SAN FRANCISCO (UPI) -- Miguel Tejada's two-run double in the bottom of the ninth Saturday rallied the San Francisco Giants to a 3-2 victory over St. Louis.

Trailing 2-1 entering their final at-bat, Buster Posey singled with one out off Ryan Franklin (0-1). Pat Burrell drew a walk and one out later Tejada roped a double to left center that was bobbled by Colby Rasmus, and the Giants came away with a dramatic win.

Giants starter Matt Cain got a no-decision after a solid, seven-inning performance in which he surrendered two runs on five hits, striking out four.

The victory went to Ramon Ramirez (1-0), who pitched a 1-2-3 top of the ninth.

Rasmus hit a seventh-inning solo homer for the Cardinals.

St. Louis starter Jaime Garcia went six innings, giving up only one run on four hits while striking out nine in a no-decision.

McIlroy extends Masters lead to four shots

AUGUSTA, Ga. (UPI) -- Rory McIlroy extended his lead at the Masters Saturday, firing a 2-under-par 70 to build a four-shot advantage after three rounds.

The Northern Irishman, searching for his first major championship, entered the round tied for first and picked up steam as the day progressed, ending 54 holes solidly ahead at 12-under 204.

McIlroy birdied three holes on the back nine to establish a strong hold on the lead.

Former Masters champion Angel Cabrera registered a 5-under 67 Saturday to forge a tie for second place at 8-under 208 with Charl Schwartzel (68), K.J. Choi (71) and Jason Day (72).

Four-time Masters winner Tiger Woods, meanwhile, had a rough day after charging into contention with a 66 in Friday's second round. Woods stumbled to 2-over 74, falling into a ninth-place tie at minus-5.

Anther Masters winner, Phil Mickelson, carded a 1-under 71 en route to a 3-under 213, good for 18th place.

Hockey

COL HKY: Minn.-Duluth 3, Michigan 2 (OT)

ST. PAUL, Minn. (UPI) -- Kyle Schmidt deflected in a shot 3:22 into overtime Saturday, giving Minnesota-Duluth its first NCAA hockey title with a 3-2 win over Michigan.

Schmidt came swooping in from the right side and got his stick on a feed from Travis Oleksuk. Schmidt tipped it past Wolverines goalie Shawn Hunwick, and the Bulldogs claimed the first hockey national championship in their history.

Oleksuk also scored and Max Tardy collected the other score for UMD, which got 22 saves from Kenny Reiter and prevented Michigan from collecting its 10th NCAA hockey championship.

The Bulldogs were playing in only their second title game. They lost in four overtimes to Bowling Green in 1984.

Ben Winnett and Jeff Rohrkemper scored and Hunwick finished with 35 saves for Michigan.

Washington man killed in hydroplane crash

YELM, Wash. (UPI) -- A Washington state man died Saturday when his hydroplane rolled over on Lake Lawrence, authorities said.

The 55-year-old driver wasn't identified, The Seattle Times reported.

Lt. Clifford Ziesemer of the Thurston County Sheriff's Office said the man, who apparently was driving in a sanctioned event, was submerged for a short time and unconscious when taken out of the water. The man died before he could be airlifted to a hospital.

The newspaper said the American Power Boat Association's Web site said a sanctioned event was scheduled for Lake Lawrence this weekend.

Vettel wins Malaysian Grand Prix again

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (UPI) -- Sebastian Vettel edged Jenson Button by three seconds and won his second consecutive Malaysian Grand Prix Sunday.

It was the fifth Formula One victory for Vettel in the last six Grand Prix races. He won three of the last four -- including the last two races -- last year in grabbing the 2010 driver's championship and opened the 2011 season with a win March 27 in Australia before defending his 2010 win in Kuala Lumpur Sunday. It was his 12th Grand Prix win in his career.

Vettel, driving for Red Bull Racing-Renault, started from the pole position and led throughout the 56-lap, 193-mile race. He experienced issues with his Kinetic Energy Recovery System halfway through the race but managed to collect the victory in 1 hour, 37 minutes, 39.8 seconds.

He finished 3.2 seconds ahead of Button, driving for McLaren-Mercedes, and was 25 seconds ahead of Renault's Nick Heidfield. Vettel's teammate Mark Webber was fourth, 26.4 seconds behind the winner, and Ferrari's Felipe Mass was fifth another 10 seconds back.

Vettel tops the 2011 drivers' standings with 50 points with Button in second at 26, just ahead of Lewis Hamilton (24 points), Button's McLaren teammate. Webber (22) is fourth and Fernando Alonso (Ferrari) sits in fifth with 20 points.

MLS: Columbus 0, Chivas USA 0 (tie)

CARSON, Calif. (UPI) -- Columbus Crew goalie William Hesmer had to make only two saves Saturday to post his third straight shutout, a 0-0 tie with Chivas USA.

Dan Kennedy earned his first shutout this season for Chivas.

Kennedy made a key save on a breakaway by Eddie Gaven in the 74th minute to preserve the scoreless duel, diving just far enough to push Gaven's shot from 18 yards just wide of the right post.

Hesmer followed with his own big save when he blocked a close-range shot by Nick LaBrocca.

The tie left Columbus at 1-1-2 and Chivas at 0-2-2.
