The Wall Street Journal reports Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) will file a cloture motion tonight forcing a showdown vote Thursday when all 100 Senators will decide whether to filibuster the anti-marriage Judge Goodwin Liu. While Democrats frequently filibustered President Bush's conservative judges, Republicans have never yet voted to filibuster or stop any of President Obama's nominated judges. Liu is worst yet. This is our best chance, but Senators must hear your outrage one last time this week.
These 11 Republican Senators need to hear from you (call 202-225-3121 eleven times), since they recently betrayed conservatives by refusing to filibuster liberal Judge John McConnell and could again refuse to filibuster Goodwin Liu: Alexander (R-TN), Brown (R-MA), Chamblis (R-GA), Collins (R-ME), Graham (R-SC), Isakson (R-GA), Kirk (R-IL), McCain (R-AZ), Murkowski (R-AK), Snowe (R-ME), Thune (R-SD). -- He has belonged to numerous far-left organizations, from the ACLU to the National Women’s Law Center. He believes in a living breathing, ever-adapting Constitution.
-- He had trouble remembering over a hundred speeches he had given that contained some of his most outrageous views.
-- He believes same-sex marriage is a constitutional right, and that courts should be tools to redistribute wealth in our society.
-- He is a radical pro-abortion true believer who opposed the Stupak [sic] pro-life Amendment, laws banning partial birth abortion, and health care rights-of-conscience protections.
-- He had the audacity to tell the Judiciary Committee that his judicial philosophy will be totally different than all of his legal writings and speeches clearly spell out as his deeply held beliefs about our Constitution.

But with only 53 Democrat/Independent Senators, Reid needs 7 turncoat Republicans to force this extreme leftist anti-marriage judge upon the American people. Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee (SJC) approved on a narrow 10-8 vote to forward anti-marriage Judge Goodwin Liu to the full Senate for a vote. All SJC Republicans voted against Liu, signaling to all 47 GOP Senators they could win a filibuster, but only if at least 41 hold firm.
The Washington Times reported "Republicans are in position to successfully filibuster his pending confirmation — a move that would hand President Obama a high-profile judicial defeat. They quoted ranking SJC member Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA), who warned, "While I have pledged — and indeed demonstrated — cooperation in moving forward on consensus nominations, there is no doubt that Mr. Liu does not fall into that category."
"Conservatives say Mr. Liu is far too liberal," the Times reports. "He’s a past chairman of the progressive American Constitution Society and a former board member of the American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California. They also complain he lacks judicial experience."
Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL) agrees: "In Professor Liu’s case, I believe the views expressed in his writings fall far outside the mainstream of the traditional American view of law and judging, going so far as to distort the meaning of plain words beyond reality."
But will even one Senate Republican filibuster Liu? Democrats filibustered Bush judges, but Republicans have not yet done so. Instead Republicans twice exercised "hold" options to keep Liu from a full floor vote, but also recently signaled their intention to cave in. "It’s also uncertain whether new nonbinding rules regarding Senate conduct would be enforced if the Liu nomination hits the chamber floor. In a gentlemen’s agreement reached in January, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Republican, vowed to use the filibuster less in exchange for a promise by Mr. Reid to allow Republicans more opportunities to offer amendments to legislation," reports the Times.
Promotion to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals could set up Liu for a Supreme Court seat in the future. His vote could come any day, if we are not vigilant. Let's fax all 100 Senators and remind them to filibuster the anti-marriage Judges Goodwin Liu and Robert Chatigny.

Republicans twice delayed confirmation of the anti-marriage, pro-homosexual Judge Goodwin Liu, but may be about to cave-in and help promote him to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. Keen News Service reports Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA), the SJC ranking minority member, has asked "that the long-standing nomination of law professor Goodwin Liu to join the 9th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals bench be held one more week [until this Thursday 7 April]. Grassley said the additional week would make it less likely Liu’s nomination would face a filibuster on the floor of the Senate. Liu has been grilled repeatedly about his writing in support of [homosexual] marriage... Liu is the longest standing nomination among 10 appeals court nominations which are still pending before the committee." In other words, we are close to victory on blocking Liu, but some "moderate" Republicans are waffling.

The Senate Judiciary Committee has twice rejected or postponed Liu's confirmation, partly because YOUR FAXES MADE A DIFFERENCE. But without a filibuster, he may soon be seated, pushing the radical 9th Circuit further left. According to the Judicial Action Group:
Liu Would Apply Foreign Law. Liu finds it "difficult to grasp" that foreign law should not be used to interpret the U.S. Constitution.
Liu Rejects Merely Reading the "Text" and "Literal" Words of the Constitution, and favors an interpretation From "Evolving Norms and Social Understandings." Liu believes the judicial function properly seeks "an awareness of the evolving norms and social understandings of our country." Liu opined: "To say that all we do is we look at the text and we read the words literally, or all we do is we look at the text and ask how did the people in 1789 or the people in 1868 understand it – that I think misses an entire range of experience that the nation has itself learned and that judges can rightly take into account."
Liu Would Impose Homosexual Marriage. Liu affirmatively inserted himself into the "Gay Marriage" political and judicial proceedings in California by submitting an amicus brief in favor of gay marriage and calling the majority of California voters a "narrow and ultimately temporary majority."
Liu Would Create a "Constitutional" Right to Welfare. Liu believes: "judicial recognition of welfare rights depends on socially situated modes of reasoning …. [J]udicial recognition of welfare rights is best conceived as an act of interpreting the shared understandings of particular welfare goods."
Liu is So Soft on Crime He is Opposed by a Bi-Partisan Majority (42 of 58) of California D.A.s., who cite: "[Liu’s] views on criminal law, capital punishment, and the role of the federal courts … [as cause for] the Judiciary Committee and the full Senate to reject this nomination."
Liu Openly Advocates Judicial Activism. Liu wrote: "For too long, liberals, progressives and moderates have been defensive about how the Constitution should be interpreted." Let's make sure all 100 Senators know we will not stand for anti-marriage judges.

The worst Road-side Strangler Judge Robert Chatigny (pronounced Shot-nee) attempted to free the "Roadside Strangler" Michael Ross, who had killed 7 victims, showing empathy for the killer (but not the victims) because the killer suffered from the "disease" of sexual sadism. No kidding, Chatigny wrote that sexual sadism was a "mitigating factor" warranting Ross be released from prison after raping and killing seven women. (Read Chatigny's detailed ruling on Ross below.) Thank God, Judge Chatigny was overruled and Ross was later executed. [Chaps comment: Jesus supported the death penalty in Matthew 15:3-4 and Mark 7:8-11.] But Judge Chatigny lived to continue his reign of insanity, imposing sentences "well below the recommended minimum in a series of child-pornography and sexual-assault cases and even tried to invalidate Connecticut's version of the Megan's Law sex-offender registry," according to The Wash. Times.
Both judges can be stopped by a filibuster from Republicans, so let's take action...

JUDGE CHATIGNY: "This is a man [Roadside Strangler Michael Ross] who, before he went off to Cornell, was as far as I know okay. He's at Cornell, he has this classmate, this petite Asian girl who is sweet and he likes her and he winds up killing her because he has this affliction, this terrible disease [sexual sadism]. And having gratified this awful, uncontrollable, impulse to sexually brutalize this person he liked and then kill her, he realizes that he has done evil and he stands on the bridge and is going to kill himself before he does it again. But he doesn't jump. And today, he looks back at those days and he hates himself because he didn't jump. He was a coward...
"So for Michael Ross to be able to back out now, forget it. The only way Michael Ross  is going to get his life back is if somebody like you [defense lawyer], and maybe only you, says, 'We realize you're no longer in a position to change your mind.' You're like the guy standing on the bridge back at the gorge in Ithaca, and you're not going to make the same mistake, the one you made back then because you went on and took seven innocent lives, and you know that you are responsible. You know you had sexual sadism. You know that you became a monster because of it. And you have now found a way to end this. And there's no turning back...
"I suggest to you that Michael Ross may be the least culpable, the least, of the people on death row. Michael Ross, by what I see in the record, suffered from these intolerable obsessional bouts with sexual sadism, which were not relieved until he began that regimen of chemical castration, whereupon they were relieved. And then when it was taken away from him, they came back. And it was only when he got the alternative regimen that he found relief again...
"He explains that the only people in the system who showed him any kindness were two women. The only ones who didn't treat him like a monster were these two women, yet in the grip of this disease he would lie awake all night thinking about sexually brutalizing them and killing them. So is he a sick man? Boy, oh, boy...
"So when he says, I feel that I'm the victim of a miscarriage of justice because they didn't treat it as a mitigating factor, I can well understand where he's coming from...
"Going beyond that, we have a guy who, having gotten beyond the sexual sadism, is nevertheless trapped in this environment at Northern [prison] where you have no human contact to speak of, you're locked up in a seven by twelve foot cell where you get to ruminate about all these things that you did, you get to think about how the world hates you, despises you."
