Read it online Dear Vicki, I work at The Salvation Army of Lee, Hendry, and Glades Counties in Southwest Florida. We rely on our local Feeding America food bank — the Harry Chapin Food Bank — to provide meals to hungry people across our region. I know earlier this month Vicki Escarra told you about Feeding America’s goal of getting 1,350 more donations by June 30th. Today, I wanted to tell you a little more about why meeting that goal is so important.   Over 50% of those coming to us for help are asking for help for the very first time. With double digit unemployment in states like Florida, more people are finding it almost impossible to find a job. The end result is that the average length of their stay with us has increased greatly. We wouldn’t be able to meet the needs of our community without Feeding America. I wish I could say we’re a unique case, but we’re not. Food banks across the country are struggling to meet demand.
