Child Hunger in America The problem of childhood hunger is not simply a moral issue. Child hunger hampers a young person's ability to learn and becomes more likely to suffer from poverty as an adult. Scientific evidence suggests that hungry children are less likely to become productive citizens. One way Feeding America addresses this issue is through Kids Cafe and BackPack programs that provide snacks and meals directly to children facing hunger. Child Hunger Ends Here During the school year, 21 million children depend on free or reduced price school meals. But, during the summer when school is not in session, many of those children will not have access to the food that they need to thrive.
