| Apple Unveils New iCloud Music Service Apple and the major music labels recently partnered to debut a groundbreaking digital music storage service dubbed iCloud. With iCloud, fans' iTunes Store music purchases will now automatically sync to the multiple iDevices, Macs and PCs associated with their AppleIDs, without users having to physically connect to "transfer purchases." Apple will also launch a $25/year iTunes Match service this fall that will go one step further and sync songs not purchased on iTunes. With iTunes Match, fans will soon be able to store their entire music collections – including tracks purchased on Amazon MP3 or copied from a personal CD – in their iCloud accounts. "Listen To Your Buds" In June the RIAA had the privilege of hosting the launch of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association's (ASHA's) "Listen To Your Buds" initiative that encourages the safe use of personal audio technology to prevent noise-induced hearing loss. The event was emceed by the energetic Mindy Thomas of the Absolutely Mindy Show on Sirius XM Kids Place Live and featured a private performance by children's music star and two-time Grammy winner Bill Harley, plus a special appearance by actor and co-founder of the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts, Esai Morales. YouTube Turns Six YouTube, which is backed by all of the major record labels for music video discovery and sharing, recently celebrated its six-year anniversary and revealed that it now receives more than three million views per day, up 50 percent in just the last 12 months! YouTube and premium music video site Vevo are partners in a web series called Unstaged that airs live streamable concerts, most recently featuring My Morning Jacket in May. |
