This week the national championships have played host to a number of collegiate and U.S. Soccer National Staff coaches each observing athletes for potential roster spots. The pressure to get a positive result in each game provides an unparalleled stage to witness the abilities? of these young athletes.
?The whole thing from the beginning of state cup to regionals to nationals, just the whole environment that you see with all the US Youth Soccer stuff up here and going through the system is what really makes this prestigious,? Kenny Medina, head coach Sting.
Over 575 scouts have registered to attend the regional and national championship competitions this summer with a majority traveling from event to event. There are other great tournaments but the history and pressure for teams to produce from one game to the next sets the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series apart.

A few highlights from today?s matches?
Under-15 Girls
On day three of round robin play, every game in the Under-15 Girls? bracket had championship implications. Region I champ PDA Slammers (NJ) needed a positive result against Slammers FC 95 (CA-S) in the last game of round robin play in order to reach Saturday?s final. PDA struck early as Natasha Ntone Kouo netted a goal in the first minute of play. The lone goal was all PDA needed to win the game and secure a berth in the final.
PDA will face a familiar opponent in the Under-15 final, SAC United Premier (MD). Four goals in the first half by four different SAC United players lifted the team to a 4-1 victory over Region II champ Eclipse Select 95-96 (IL). PDA beat SAC United 1-0 in round robin play, to add to a 4-1 PDA victory in the Region I championship game over SAC United.
The other Under-15 Girls game pitted Region I against Region III as Match Fit Chelsea Beat (NJ) faced 2010 national finalist Sting 96 (N-TX). Sidney LeRoy, McKenna Whitaker, McKayla Paulson and Meghan Murphy all scored for Sting to secure a 4-nil win on day three. Despite the victory, Sting did not advance to the title game and was denied the chance to avenge a heart breaking loss in 2010.
Under-16 Girls
In the Under-16 Girls bracket, Michigan Hawks 95 (MI) fell short of the final on day three as it lost 1-0 to Dallas Texans 95 Red (N-TX). The Dallas Texans took the lead in the 21st minute on a Jasmine Hart strike. Texans keeper Cara Connaster preserved the win as she blocked a Michigan Hawks PK in the waning minutes of the game.
Riding a year-long win streak, Hurricane FC 95 Shubert (OK) faced Mustang Blast CA-N) in its last round robin match. Hurricane took a first-half lead as Claire Kelley finished a driven cross. Mustang Blast would level in the 60th minute on a strike by Kristen Pavlick. With less than 10 minutes to play, Mustang Blast earned a corner. The ensuing kick bounced off a Hurricane player and into her own net, giving the Mustang Blast the 2-1 win. Despite the loss, Hurricane advanced to the title game.
Sting 95 (N-TX) continued its quest for a second-straight national championship with a convincing 3-0 victory over Scorpions Elite (MA), its 2010 title game opponent. On Friday, Sting was lead to victory by a Madeleine Lundberg hat trick. Sting will face Hurricane FC in the national championship final, with a chance to avenge its loss in the Region III championship game.
Under-15 Boys
US Youth Soccer National League rivals Michigan Jaguars and SDFC Gauchos (NJ) squared off on the final day of play for a chance in the finals and the result was the same as Jaguars took down Gauchos 4-1 to move on to the final. Luai Fakhoury put Jaguars in front in just the 4th minute and Griffin Parks doubled it in the 19th before division scoring leader Troy Carrington Jr. pulled one back for Gauchos before halftime. After the break, Zachary Bock put Jaguars back up by two and Michael Winters sealed it in the 68th as Jaguars head to the Under-15 Boys final in the club?s first trip to the national stage.
Chicago Fire Juniors (IL) sat atop the Under-15 Boys division heading into today, but all six teams were still in contention for the final. Fire took care of business on the final day of preliminary play, defeating Solar Chelsea 96 (N-TX) 1-0 to earn the top seed and a spot in the final. Christian Hanock-Berhanu scored the game winner midway through the second half to clinch a title appearance for the MLS side.
Both FC Dallas Premier (N-TX) and San Diego Surf (CA-S) had an opportunity to move onto the Under-15 final with a win and some help from the other results. A stoppage time goal from Antonio Aguilar gave FC Dallas the 2-1 victory, but they didn?t get the results they needed and settled for a third place finish. Surf took the lead within the first five minutes but Paulo Sanchez equalized for FC Dallas in the 17th to set up Aguilar?s winner.
Under-16 Boys
Concorde Fire Elite (GA) have made the most out of their return trip to the National Championships as they will play for the title, finishing atop the group on tiebreakers after a 5-0 defeat of MN Thunder Academy 95. After losing all three matches in 2010, Concorde finished 2-1 and, led by Cameron Moseley?s hatrick, exploded for five goals against Thunder to get the necessary goal differential. Tyler Alexander and Caleb Adams added to the total as the Under-16 Boys final will feature both US Youth Soccer National League division winners.
After a heartbreaking loss in overtime of last year?s national final, Under-16 Albion White (CA-S) is back in the title game, but not quite in the fashion they hoped for. The back and forth rivalry with Eastside FC 94 Red (WA) just entered new territory as Eastside defeated Albion 1-0 on a James Molyneux goal in the 15th minute, but with four teams tied atop the group, Albion emerged as the second seed after tiebreakers to put them back in the final for another chance at the crown they have been seeking since last year?s defeat.
Under-19 Boys
Under-19 Boys Chicago Fire Juniors had already secured a spot in the final heading into today?s game with Baltimore Bays Chelsea, but the Bays needed at least a tie to secure a rematch and they got it with a 1-1 draw. The Bays grabbed a crucial goal just after halftime to assume the lead and give them some breathing room, but Marco Gutierrez equalized in stoppage time for the Fire to set up a rematch for it all on Sunday.
