THE JULY 15 ROUND-UP » Earlier: The Bank of Latvia has released its second 1 lats collector coin of 2011, this time dedicated to Rundale Palace . The obverse of the coin features a bird's eye view of Rundale Palace and its formal gardens as they used to be represented in 18th century engravings, while the coat of arms of Count E. J. Biron is on the reverse. The new proof coin, struck by the Dutch Mint, has a mintage limit of 7,000 pieces.

Since 2005, the painting belongs to the Royal Collection - the art collection of the British Royal Family.
» This Week: The third issue in the series Windows of Heaven has been released, and features the stained glass windows of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France . The coin is now in stock ready for immediate delivery.
» Earlier: On April 14, the Bank of Latvia released a 1 lats collector coin dedicated to Aleksandrs Caks, Latvia’s great 20th century poet. Caks (1901-1950) was considered both a modernist and an urbanist who reflected not only the beauty of the city of Riga in his poetry, but also the grittiness, with poems about homelessness, prostitutes, and poverty. The design is inspired by the first line of the poem "Confession" and is titled "Fog Mists the Pane" . The new proof coin, struck by the Mint of Finland in the shape of a square, was designed by artists Ilmars Blumergs and has a mintage of 7,000.
» Earlier: The German central bank has announced that its uncirculated €10 coins will be minted in cupronickel instead of silver, starting with the second issue of 2011. This means that the issue for Franz Liszt is the last issue with silver coins issued in both proof and uncirculated qualities. The reason for this is of course the staggeringly high silver prices that have pushed the value of the precious metal far above the denominational value of the coin.
» Earlier: In July, Monaco will issue a €2 coin celebrating the wedding of Prince Albert to Charlene Wittstock. The coin will be released in proof quality in a jewel case only, and the issue limit will be 60,000 pcs.
