| Fairy Tales Retold With Balloons Posted: 17 Aug 2011 11:52 PM PDT I love these fairy tale recreations by artists Larry Moss and Kelly Cheatle of Airigami.com. Kelly would use Photoshop to alter the images to look more 2D and Larry did the actual bending and twisting of the balloons. See more over at Environmental Graffiti. |
| Superhero Aprons For The Super Home Chef Posted: 17 Aug 2011 11:38 PM PDT We sell some pretty cool aprons over in the Neatoshop, including some superhero ones, but just in case we don’t have exactly what you’re looking for, check out Bethany Sew-and-Sew’s shop. Bethany makes customized aprons in superhero styles and more. She even has some Princess Peach, Mario and Alice In Wonderland ones that are simply adorable. |
| Posted: 17 Aug 2011 11:24 PM PDT Mental Floss has a great post featuring a variety of weird cameras, but my favorite has to be this weird gun camera. The trigger works just like one on a regular gun, which gives a whole new meaning to shooting wildlife. |
| 10 Amazing Movies That Were Never Made Posted: 17 Aug 2011 11:14 PM PDT
Of course, a lot of the other ones would be pretty awesome too. |
| Tokyoflash Treasure Hunt #17 Winners Posted: 17 Aug 2011 10:04 PM PDT
Congratulations to the winners of the Tokyoflash Treasure Hunt #17, which we conducted in partnership with Geeks Are Sexy. The answer page is here. The NeatoShop winners are:
The Grand Prize, courtesy of the good folks over at Tokyoflash goes to ... John Tushingham, who won the S-Mode Oberon. Congrats, guys - and for those of you who played, we thank you! Please stay tuned for the next Tokyoflash Treasure Hunt on Neatorama! |
| Catch Birds And Feed Your Cat-At The Same Time Posted: 17 Aug 2011 07:23 PM PDT
"The cat feeder by its design is self-cleaning since the cat quickly learns to remove the sparrow from the cage." Thankfully, you won’t be seeing these in your neighborhoods anytime soon, and cats will just have to settle for birds they can catch on their own. Link -via BoingBoing |
| Underwater Cave Stretches Five Kilometers Posted: 17 Aug 2011 07:08 PM PDT Near Orda, a Russian village in the Ural Mountains, you can find an enormous underwater gypsum cave. It’s one of the largest in the world, with galleries stretching as far as five kilometers. Victor Lyagushkin led a team of divers deep inside to photograph this natural wonder. You can view many beautiful pictures of it at the link. Link -via Fubiz |

| Amazing Illustrations By Carlos Villagra Posted: 17 Aug 2011 06:40 PM PDT There is no doubt that the work of Carlos Villagra is in demand. From concept art to comic book illustrations, Carlos brings originality of design and style to each piece, then renders them beautifully until you get awesomeness like this re-imagining of Buzz Lightyear. Head on over to ComicsAlliance and check out a small gallery of his works, then be sure to visit Carlos’ blog if you like what you see and want more. Will Pixar ever be bold enough to re-imagine their characters in such a way? Not likely… Link -via ComicsAlliance |
| Air Guitar Never Looked So Sweet Posted: 17 Aug 2011 06:29 PM PDT Even the most die-hard air band enthusiast knows just how silly they look when they’re jamming out on a drum set or guitar that simply isn’t there. And audiences don’t appreciate the hard work and talent that went in to mimicking musicianship when they can’t see the source of the sweet sounds. Enter Air Band for Kinect on Xbox 360, a game that brings your invisible instruments to life via snazzy neon graphics that will make you feel right at home when you’re playing an epic rendition of “More Than A Feeling”. Now your audience will no longer be disappointed, and you can show them why you’ve been practicing so hard all these years! Kinect Fun Labs-Air Band debuts on August 22nd. |
| Posted: 17 Aug 2011 06:16 PM PDT Not all cosplay takes place on the floor of some comic convention somewhere, and adding a setting or proper lighting really makes these characters pop. Take a look at this gallery from ComicsAlliance and see just what every cosplayer wishes they could look like. If only I could get people to clear the floor around the characters when i’m shooting pics at Comic Con! |

| NYC Mayor Honors NASA's Last Space Shuttle Crew Posted: 17 Aug 2011 05:24 PM PDT Hard to believe that the final Space Shuttle mission is over and the USA doesn't have a clear follow up to the shuttle program. However the final shuttle astronauts are being honored in New York City this week, most notably by Mayor Bloomberg.

| Get Engaged the Bruce Campbell Way Posted: 17 Aug 2011 05:09 PM PDT (Video Link) You could get Patrick Stewart to help out with your marriage proposal, but this geek decided to pop the question to his girlfriend according to the Evil Dead tradition. Bruce Campbell was a guest at the recent Chicago Comic Con and cooperated with this grand romantic gesture. -via The Mary Sue |

| Photographic Proof of Leia's Affair With Chewie Posted: 17 Aug 2011 02:50 PM PDT Sure Leia was always flirting with Han, but it was easy to see her eyes shooting longing looks of love over to Chewbacca, so it’s not all that surprising to see photographic evidence of their affair being made public all these years later. |
| Posted: 17 Aug 2011 02:37 PM PDT Humans might be one of the only animals to use tools as weapons, but Crack has a great list of animals born with weapons built right into their bodies -like the Giant Amazonian Centipede’s ninja skills, which allow him to catch and eat whole bats. Read about the rest at the link. |
| Jersey Shore Cast Member Offered Anti-Endorsement Contract Posted: 17 Aug 2011 02:37 PM PDT
Coach isn’t the only brand that is being impacted by negative product placement. Now the clothing company Abercrombie & Fitch is offering Michael "The Situation" Sorrentino, also a cast member on Jersey Shore, money if he will agree to not wear its clothing in public again. A press release from the company stated:

Why? Because science says your entire idea of happiness is wrong. Learn why over at Cracked. |

| Posted: 17 Aug 2011 01:26 PM PDT These crochet TIE Fighters were created for the Stitch Wars Strikes Back show in Florida. What other space ships should be used for chrochet? |
| A Brief History of The Ancient Science of Sword Making Posted: 17 Aug 2011 01:06 PM PDT Swords are some of the most interesting and continually chivalrous weapons ever made. That's why even today in movies the bad guy will often wield a sword rather than a gun to make the action that more intimate and "sexy." But how were ancient swords originally created?

| Posted: 17 Aug 2011 12:41 PM PDT Most companies wouldn’t care for an ad that only makes sense during a certain time of day, but this one is so cool that people are clamoring to see it. Using about 3,000 Newcastle bottle caps, artists Pablo Power and Ellis Gallagher created a San Diego billboard that makes its point by using shadows. Link via Laughing Squid |
