Art & Gear From An Angel
But like, a really mad one
A Portland artist who ditched a career designing for major sportswear brands, Angel is poised to tear through the city with a debut t-shirt line and poster show (thrown in collaboration with the screen-geniuses of SE's Modified) that draws on anarcho-agitprop, old-timey spank mags, PDX irreverence, and a healthy dose of metal, so hopefully Tungsten, or failing that, Beryllium. The eyeball-entrancing, torso-enhancing split:
P.O.R.N. Posters: An acronym for People Of a Reckless Nature (unless they're using protection!), this limited-edition poster run draws on political art by agitators ranging from Russian revolutionaries to the Black Panthers, and spits anarchist fire in prints like "Resist", featuring a nude lady sourced from a '20s gentleman's photo, now emboldened by the subversive circled "A". There's also "Fall In Love - Not In Line", a slogan discovered at a socialist book fair, placed beneath the image of an alluring maiden, which he claims is an homage to activist Emma Goldman, because "nobody loved freedom more", except circa-1990 George Michael fans who weren't that into "Praying for Time".
Mod by Angel Threads: A brand-new tee collab with Modified, Mod kicks out Rose City-specific designs with more than a dash of face-melting rock, like a riff on Danzig's classic Samhain album art that highlights "Portland" in a satanic font and tangles it in the antlers of an elk skull, or a suited dude whose head is actually yours, because lord knows your love of old-timey spank mags keeps you from getting it from anyone else.
It all kicks off on Friday with the P.O.R.N. poster show at Modified, where you'll be able score poster art and shirts hand-pulled while you watch, so swing by Modified's Facebook page to check out the deets and peep all of Angel's designs
