When the original Nintendo Entertainment System made its U.S. debut in the 1980s, there was one game that no kid in his right mind wanted for Christmas: Donkey Kong Jr. Math. Yet now, apparently, a new generation of parents has embraced the video game as an educational tool.

According to a survey by Ipsos Public Affairs conducted on over 1,000 parents in July of this year, 73 percent of parents feel that educational video games can be an effective teaching tool. This means that nearly three out of every four parents believe that games such as Dora the Explorer Saves the Mermaids or Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego can help children build their hand-eye coordination and teamwork skills...
