Juan Chou
Mexicanese? Japaxican? Either way, hit this.
3023 Juniper St; South Park; 619.487.0455
Brothers and sisters rarely agree on what to eat, even if they can definitely agree that dad's new friend Staci has much better boobs than mom. For vittles from a bro-sis combo still not quite ready to agree on that first part, hit Juan Chou.
From an entrepreneurial Chula Vista fam who, not to brag, also owns a liquor store and a print shop (this is bragging: they're responsible for the awesome menus!), JC's a cozy non-fusion Mexican/Japanese spot spawned from a brother and sister's divergent appetites and set up in the former El Camino South Park spot they remodeled in "one sleepless month" which, if spent in Seattle, would've involved a hell of a lot more Ross Malinger.
The Mexican: Relying on family recipes to hold it down on the Juan end, Mexi-eats include apps like tilapia ceviche and chicken/carne Juanachos, burritos/ tacos/ tortas ranging from pollo asado to chorizo, and large plates like jack-stuffed chile rellenos, certified angus carne asada, and Tinga Tostadas made with spicy chicken, also something you should never call Spicy Marty McFly.
The Japanese: Carving things up on the front end, the imported sushi chef from Sonora's rolling out starters like the Honeymoon Shooter (WA oyster & sea urchin), and a whopping 16 specialty rolls stretching from the tropical Coco Island with crab/ shrimp tempura/ tuna/ cream cheese/ mango/ jalapeno/ coconut, to the crab/ salmon/ tuna/ cuke/ avo/ chipotle sauce Surge Roll, which tends to get way over-hyped when served in NYC.
For the pleasure of the cuisine gods, they'll be rocking a half-off tacos/ margaritas/ sangria Taco Tuesday, and a Sushi Sunday with $3 sake bombs/ half-off traditional rolls, which your Mom's eyes will do when she sees what Staci is wearing to graduation. Me-ow.
