Verizon Has Samsung's Back in Patent War with Apple

The saying goes, "never bite the hand that feeds you." But what do you do when two of those hands are in a testy patent war with each other? If you are Verizon Wireless (News - Alert), apparently you side with the party that would benefit you most.


In a court filing dated Sept. 23, Verizon mounted legal opposition to Apple's request to block the sale of various Samsung devices in the U.S, according to Reuters (News - Alert).

The nation's largest wireless carrier said that any ban on next-generation Samsung devices would adversely affect both Verizon and its customers because the deployment of its 4G network "depends on consumers having access to devices that can make use of that network."


Verizon also suggested that an injunction would slow the deployment of other next-gen networks, which would stand as "contrary to the stated goals of the U.S. government."
