T.H.E. Airy Arteries
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Robert Reports
A major breakthrough has taken place in our understanding of the nature of healthy
arteries and the open and unimpeded flow that is intergral to them and our basic
health and longevity. Researchers have since discovered the complex process by
which the body manages calcium uptake, distribution, and deposition. Many of the
same factors that regulate healthy calcium levels in our bones are also implicated
in the destructive accumulation of calcium in our arteries. In fact, the two factors
most crucial to atherosclerosis and osteoporosis prevention are controlled by our
vitamins D and K. The answer to the vascular delema may simply be the calcium controlling
nutrients that maintain "airy" and open arteries.[1]
When most people hear vitamin K, they immediately think of the "coagulation vitamin".
Most people associate vitamin K with its role in the blood clotting process. However,
a second type of this nutrient called vitamin K2 or menaquinone is changing the
way we think about health and longevity. The benefits of vitamin K2 are strongly
tied to the calcium paradox of osteoperosis, which basically is the loss of calcium
from our bones. Most importantly, the calcium may end up in our circulatory system
and the artery walls. High concentrations of calcium in the blood creates rigid
blood vessels, leading to hypertension and vascular disease. Scientists have found
vitamin K2 tackles both issues by activating proteins which either adhere calcium
to bone or remove calcifications from arteries.[2]
The function of vitamin K2 menaquinone as it pertains to decalcification of arteries
can be seen here in detail. Vitamin K-dependent proteins, called matrix Gla-protein
or (MGP)3, have been shown to inhibit vascular (artery) calcification. Activation
of these proteins via carboxylation depends on the availability of vitamin K in
the body. Vitamin K is an essential co-factor for the conversion of glutamate into
7-carboxy-glutamate. This happens in a chemical reaction called carboxylation. This
process plays an important role in maintaining balance through the activation of
blood coagulation and anticoagulation factors in the liver. These vitamin K dependent
proteins are also present in and outside the liver tissues and in bone and our vascular
tissue (arteries) as well. The substance matrix Gla-protein (MGP)3 was identified
in human atherosclerotic plaque, where it may prevent calcium build-up (clots).
In addition, matrix Gla protein (MGP) is found in numerous body tissues that requires
vitaminK for its optimum function. It is also present in bone as well as in heart,
kidney and lung tissue. In the bone, its (MGP)3 production is increased by vitamin
D. Furthermore, the carboxylation of vitamin K-dependent protein (MGP)3 promotes
the ability to bind to calcium ions, which is essential for its optimal function
in bone growth. Inversely, elevated levels of under-carboxylated osteocalcin are
also vitamin K-dependent protein involved in bone metabolism, or breakdown. Also,
research has shown that the elderly are at a higher risk of bone loss due to a vitamin
K deficiency.[3]
Most importantly, vitamin D regulates D-binding proteins and some calcium-binding
proteins, which are responsible for carrying calcium to the "right places".[4]
Vitamin D3 helps maintain normal calcium levels in the body. This is crucial to
the health of our arteries and bones. When high calcium levels are present and
vitamin D is deficient, excess calcium can lead to calcification of arteries, joints,
kidney, and maybe even the brain. In addition, vitamin D promotes the suppression
of artery calcification due to artery damage, and inhibits its vascular smooth muscle
growth. Inflammatory controlling cytokines and growth factors can potentially stimulate
or inhibit the production of arterial plaque build. [5]The traditional view of atherosclerosis
or heart disease has been labeled a "lipid or fat storage disease". Now, growing
evidence has emerged that inflammation participates in all stages of cardiovascular
disease, specifically arterial calcification.[6]
Many of the nutrients and food components we consume as part of our normal diet
can potentially have a positive or negative impact on our bone and cardiovascular
health. They may be influenced by various bone growth mechanisms. These include
the rate of bone metabolism, endocrine (hormonal) influences, and the balance of
calcium and other bone-active mineral elements. These dietary factors range from
inorganic minerals such as calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, sodium, potassium, and
vitamins A, D, K, C, and other macronutrients like protein and fatty acids.[7] To
achieve this nutritional balance as it pertains to optimal bone growth and calcium
utilization we highly recommend a balanced diet and the addition of a multiple mineral
supplement that specifically contain vitamin D and K. We highly recommend Jarrow
Formulas' Bone-Up, which provides the maximum mineral diversity that is required
to promote healthy ateries and bones. We also recommend Natural Factors Vitamin
D3 1000 I.U. for maintaining optimal vitamin D levels. Please check with your doctor
for appropriate blood tests.
Several cases of excessive bleeding have been reported in people who take antibiotics.
This side effect may be the result of reduced vitamin K activity or reduced vitamin
K production by bacteria in the colon. Studies have shown that people who had taken
broad-spectrum antibiotics had lower liver concentrations of vitamin K2 (menaquinone),
though Vitamin K1 (phylloquinone) levels remained normal. Several antibiotics appear
to exert a strong effect on vitamin K production and activity. We highly recommend
natural methods to increase our immunity and also recommend vitamin K supplementation
if you wish to take antibiotics. We also highly recommend the addition of a daily
probiotic to enhance our natural production of vitamin K2 from healthy bacteria.[8]
That's why we recommend Kyodophilus' One Per Day from Wakunaga of America which
is a high potency probiotic that contains 3 billion live cells of the friendly bacteria,
Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Bifidobacterium longum.
Vitamin K is a fat-soluble vitamin, the body stores very little of and is rapidly
depleted. Interestingly enough, the human body does recycle vitamin K very efficiently,
so a little goes a long way. The R.D.A. for adults ranges from 90 mcg's to 120 mcg's
per day. The established therapeutic dose for vitamin K before and after surgery
is 500 mcg's to 1000 mcg's to prevent excess blood loss. Please consult with your
physician before supplementing with vitamin K2 if you are using prescription medicine
(blood thinners).[9] If you wish to supplement vitamin K2 as menaquinone, we would
only recommend the best, and that is Jarrow Formulas' MK-7 Vitamin K2. MK-7 is a
soy source that is non-GMO (Non Genetically Modified Organism), with solvent free
extraction that provides the highest quality obtainable.
The truth of optimal circulation in our cardiovascular systems is its freedom to
pass as absolutely unobstructed as possible. 'Airy Arteries' are open, able to
provide us with the maximum delivery of life sustaining oxygen and nutrients possible.
