Best of the Best
In case you've been in Lownsdale Park impressing anarchist hotties with your Sacco & Vanzetti impressions, here're four awesome restos and a real revolution in banking you may have missed
Emailed on the 7th: Luce
2140 E Burnside: Southeast; 503.236.7195
Once a private dining hall driven by a food-obsessed husband/wife team, East Burnside's Luce has just doubled in size and morphed into a light-filled, full-service Italian resto and mercantile shop still run by the cute couple, who've also installed a striking black and white-checkered floor, shelves of sundries, and a homey kitchen explorable on your way to the restrooms -- all inspired by the duo's love of Italia's laid-back "old man bars", because Neil Young songs would drive anyone to drink.
Get the rest of the story and a sweet video-glimpse of the new East Burnside Italian joint just by hitting this link

Emailed on the 11th: The House of Ramen
223 SW Columbia; Downtown; 971.279.5757
Serving what you ate in college, if you went to college in a Japan invaded by fat Americans, The House of Ramen is a new downtown noodle house from two Japanese partners, rocking striking red and grey walls festooned with a rotating selection of local art, and offering a menu seeking to morph the traditional Japanese fare with elements familiar to stateside eaters, though how you deep-fry soup is anyone's guess.
All the sweet ramen-y details are right on the other side of this link, so grab your chopsticks and get to clickin', chicken

Emailed on the 13th: The Woodsman Tavern
4537 SE Division; Southeast
From the caffeinated cat who started Stumptown Coffee, the gustatory genius who helped launch Olympic Provisions, and a torrid tender who raised the bar at Laurelhurst Market, Woodsman Tavern is a watering hole/ chow-hall opening Monday and boasting an epic raw bar, a super-rare charcoal-fired oven, tons of ham, classy 'tails, and rustically jazz-agey confines complete with exposed brick, rich wood everything, and little details like platform lights from a circa 1930s NY Subway, home of the famous "5-cent footlong".
They're just picking up steam, so swing through this link to get a full rundown of what could be hitting your plate and Pilsner glass this weekend

Emailed on the 17th: Mellow Mushroom
1411 NW Flanders; Northwest; 503.224.9019
Opening today with its very first West Coast location in the heart of Portland's Pearl, Mellow Mushroom is a pizza joint rocking cult-favorite pies pairable with 100 brews in a George Jetson-esque man-cave complete with an "artful semi-hippie vibe", because nothing says pizza like an 18-wheeler full of bongos and goo balls.
You'll want to get in on the beer club here, but you'll have to catch up by hitting this link to get all the sudsy details

Emailed on the 24th: Bank Simple
Because for years the only truly awesome banks was named Adam and played for the Mighty Ducks, there's Bank Simple, which aims to free you from big-bank shackles via a totally free, ultra-slick, all-digital "banking alternative", conceived when a newly Portlandified Aussie discovered it took an annoying amount of work to be an American bank customer, decided he didn't like it, then presumably pulled out a gigantic bowie knife and chased off some would-be muggers.
Your bank really doesn't want you to click this link and learn about how Bank Simple plans to go out of their way to make your financial life so much more...uh...simple
