Sublime Ale House
Because The Mighty Mighty Bosstones Ale House can only be in Bosstone
1020 W San Marcos Blvd; San Marcos; 760.510.9220
Proving they're more than just a band from the '90s that got teenage chicks to say they like ska, Sublime Ale House is now gracing San Marcos' Restaurant Row with their heady presence, ready to dish out an extensive menu of "gourmet comfort fare" from a wide-open rustic joint with a covered patio and a square, centrally located bar surrounding a pillar sprouting four massive flatscreens, and 48 taps, or as it's known in Morse code "somebody being a d**k".
The Beer: To give the house a sturdy foundation, they're rocking 100+ rotating suds heavily repping local and domestic crafts, and expanding tastes with Belgians like the strong, easy to spell/pronounce ale Gouden Carolus Hopsinjoor and international rarities like Schwarzbier (black beer) from Schwarzbierbrauerei, aka, the final word on every spelling bee ever.
The Mac n' Cheese: If you find yourself shouting at normal Mac, "why do you continually settle for just being the status quo?", they've got elevated works like the Sublime with roasted chicken/ shrooms/ applewood bacon/ truffle oil, and the pulled pork/ caramelized onion/ parsley Rapture.
The Burgers: Meat discs are made from ground-daily Angus sandwiched between house-baked buns and get creative with the likes of roasted tomato and spinach artichoke dip on the semi-confusingly named Spinach Dip, and brie/ caramelized onion/ bacon jam on the Slap Yo Mama, also the name of the song that explains why Momma Said Knock You Out.
The Pizza: The on-site baker pre-ferments dough to enhance the flavor of 'zas like the garlic-/ olive oil-based fig, prosciutto, arugula & balsamic glazed Get Figgy Wit It -- order it with a lady friend, and don't be afraid, with the quickness you'll either get laid, or end up in Garden Grove sitting through a crappy band, while your bed sheet's covered in sand. "What I Got" is also a good track!
They've also got a spread of specialty grilled cheeses, so check out the full menu at SublimeAleHouse.com
