Tabbed Out
An app that picks up your bill
Available at various locations

No matter how much fun you're having, it always sucks when it's time to pay the bill, especially if yours is Bill Cosby, who, according to Twitter, just died! Oh wait, no, that's a rumor. But Sinbad, on the other hand, that dude is totally dead. Wait, also a rumor? Damn you unsubstantiated Twitter deaths!! For an app that'll only cause the death of the dad from Family Matters annoying credit card receipts, get Tabbed Out.

Finally hitting The Town, this Google and iPhone-compatible app works remote control-style, letting you monitor, manage, and pay your booze bill automatically, and was conceived by two Tejas dudes (with a decade of experience in card payment/security software) after it took them almost an hour to pay their tab one night, proving, if nothing else, that these guys have a hard time making eye contact with waitresses.

Once you connect Tabbed to a debit/credit card using it is like eating very-simple-to-make cake: at participating spots, it generates a secure code to show your barman that'll let you monitor the bill on your phone as you go, add a tip, and, if you'd rather avoid too deep a connection with your server, pay wirelessly, presumably by establishing...um, a connection with their server.

There's a $0.99 convenience charge each time you use, but to make up for it it'll email you a copy of your receipt upon request and will even call you a cab, though hopefully it's a big-bodied one, with dark berry fruit, and a long finish...which also doesn't mind making multiple stops.

Currently Tabbed works at sweet local drink spots like Grim's and Auto Battery, Thrillist Fav Five burger joint Lil' Woody's, and awesomely ironic movie theater/bar Central Cinema, where even now they're planning a memorial Houseguest, First Kid double feature to honor the fall...what?! Oh, right. Nevermind.
