The Texas DIR provides leadership and oversight for the management of state and regional government information and communications technology. Under the terms of the five-year agreement, Texas DIR's eligible organizations will now be able to efficiently and cost-effectively access a range of Level 3's data, Internet and transport services, including dedicated Internet access (DIA), Internet protocol virtual private network (IPVPN) and Ethernet private line (EPL). "We want to help accelerate the State of Texas' communications technologies into the 21st century," said Karen W. Robinson, chief technology officer, the State of Texas. "Advanced technologies can help us dramatically improve the ability of state agencies, academic institutions and governmental entities to meet the needs of all of the state's constituents quickly and effectively."
"State-sponsored organizations require reliable and secure network services, and Level 3's extensive fiber backbone is uniquely designed to address their needs and support the critical communications functions that enable them to expand their organizational capabilities," said Andrew Crouch, regional president of North American Sales for Level 3. "We are delighted to work with the Texas Department of Information Resources to offer state agencies, educational institutions and enterprises access to our advanced suite of network services."
