The holiday season is here and your Credit Union wants to help you get through the year's busiest shopping season stress-free. No matter how or where you choose to shop, these tips can help you shop smart and stay on budget. Make a list and set a budget. List the people you plan to buy for and how much you plan to spend. If it relates to the holiday season, add it to your budget. Shop around. A sale price isn't always the best price. Some retailers may offer a sale price on the item you want for a limited time, while others may offer discounts every day. Look for price-matching policies. Some retailers will match, or even beat a competitor's price. Go online. Check out web sites that compare prices. If you decide to buy online, keep shipping costs and delivery time in mind. Ask about refund and return policies. Refund and return policies can vary greatly. Make sure you know the retailer's policy before you purchase. Ship early. If you're sending gifts out-of-town, factor in extra time for shipping. If you wait until the last minute, you'll pay much more for express or overnight shipping. Or, be unique. Try making homemade gifts or make a donation to a charity or cause in the name of the "recipient".
