A contest closing this Friday, November 18, asks participants to “explain how a setback you’ve faced had a positive influence on your educational pursuit,” and three winners will receive Amazon Kindle Fire readers.

The irony of this contest and subsequent prize has not gone unnoticed for some of us who watch the consumer electronics industry, particularly where the evolution of print into digital readership is concerned. As our communications world increasingly drifts into the “140-character mode,” even established news organizations are finding it more profitable and easier to reach readers with significantly shorter articles.
