Good afternoon Andrew,
Metal traders remained ambivalent throughout the session with prices little changed at the close....Traders remain edgy as the Eurozone finance ministers meeting continues....On a positive note; Greece has finally been granted its desperately needed next bailout installment of $8 billion....That should hold Greece for a month or so....Meanwhile; over in Iran demonstrators attacked the UK Embassy raising an already high level of geo-political tension between the two countries....Crude as you might imagine jumped in price....Iran is the world's 3rd largest Oil exporter....Last on Crude $99.79 up $1.58 per barrel.....As for the metals; Silver ended the session at $31.97 off 27 cents.....Gold edged higher by $2.00 to close at $1713.00.....Palladium eased by $1.00 to $585.00....Platinum fell $7.00 to finish at $1542.00.....Volume was moderate......Over in the currency markets the Euro remains frozen in place as traders wait for meaningful news from the Brussels meeting....Last trade $1.3330 off 2/100ths of U.S. cent.....In stock trading we find the Dow up some 62 points on the back of sharp rebound in U.S. consumer confidence.....The Street expected the reading to show a modest rise to 42.5, and we got a reading 56....We are a bit surprised that the gain in share prices wasn't more pronounced....Perhaps the Iranian situation is dampening the enthusiasm, or perhaps it's the drag on waiting for news out of the Continent...Regardless the Dow remains solidly higher as of 1:45 PM Eastern.....When we return tomorrow the calendar moves along with a host of additional reports....Traders will face the ADP Private Employment Survey, the Chicago Purchasing Managers Index of Manufacturing, the Weekly Oil Inventories, Pending Home Sales, and the latest Fed Beige Book....I'll be back in the morning with the estimates....That's it....Have a good afternoon....
