Greetings ,

The bounty of the holiday season isn't necessarily limited to good cheer and gifts. It can also come in less desirable forms like more activity at work. For Detective Armstrong and me, that means more bodies, and this time we've got a man who was found dead in his home.

An anonymous 911 caller led us to the body of Jackson Walker, who was wearing a Santa hat and was surrounded by Christmas decorations and other trimmings of the season.

We need you to tell us what happened. Who was the killer? What was the motive? What evidence supports your theory? We've given you the incident report, an evidence inventory, a witness interview and more. Now you tell us the story of the crime.

Write a theory of the case

There is no "correct" answer. Use your imagination and your detective skills to devise the story behind the crime. Submit your tale of what happened and why in no more than 500 words by Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 11:59 p.m. PST.

Visit the It was a Wonderful Life Whodunit Contest page to see the complete contest rules and to submit your entry.

Write a caption for the photo

In this busy holiday season, maybe you don't have time to write a long theory, but you can still help out with this case. Just visit the It was a Wonderful Life Caption Contest page, and submit your pithy description of the crime scene and its story using no more than 25 words.

Selecting the winners

The Crime Scene staff will review all of the entries and select the best ones based on creativity, plausibility, character and plot. Those top entries will be posted anonymously, and Crime Scene viewers will be invited to vote for their favorite theory and caption.

Vote for the best theory and caption in the Mannequin Murder

Anytime between now and 6:00 p.m. PST on Wednesday, December 7, 2011, visit the Mannequin Murder Top Captions page and the Mannequin Murder Top Whodunit Theories page to cast your votes for your favorites.

Winners will be announced on December 8, 2011 and prizes, including free Crime Scene memberships, will be awarded.

New to Crime Scene?

There are several ways you can take part.

Anonymous Tipsters are always welcome at Crime Scene, and you don't need to pay anything or even sign up to enjoy a case.

Officers can use their registered Crime Scene IDs to post comments on case documents, see the questions the detectives are answering, and participate in the Crime Scene Community.

Detectives can use their paid Crime Scene IDs to do everything the Officers can, plus they can ask the detectives questions about the investigation and get answers. They also get to see interview videos without ads and can review solutions of solved cases.

Detectives also get access to exclusive case documents and, coming soon, even more premium features.
