12 Great Tips to Scan Your Family Pictures

There is, arguably, no greater gift you can give your
family than scanning the family photos. Make no mistake,
it isn't a simple process. It needs to be done with some
care and with an eye toward creating a permanent, high-
quality digital archive. But it is worth it. In this
piece, our scanner expert, David Stone, shares some of
his tips for making the process as painless as possible.

Google's Android Update Alliance Is Already Dead

Remember the Google I/O conference in May when all the
wireless carriers and big hardware vendors lined up and
promised to make "timely" updates for their Android
devices? We wondered how that was going so PCMag's Jamie
Lendino got the official word from those same players.
Android fan boys--myself included--are not going to like
what they said.

Review Samsung Galaxy Nexus Review

One phone that does have the latest and greatest
version of Android is the new Samsung Galaxy Nexus for
Verizon. It runs Android 4.0 and offers the best
smartphone experience going. There is just one thing that
kept this phone from being our Editors' Choice: the call
quality isn't great. Check out Sascha Segan's review for
the full details.

Star Wars: The Old Republic pre-launch - First impressions

This eagerly anticipated MMORPG is just about to go live,
but the guys at Geek.com have been in the world for a while
and collected some first impressions. Games like this take a
long time to explore, but the early word seems to be positive.
Somewhat dull missions are balanced out by engaging combat
options. This is the first of what will no doubt be many
reports from the Old Republic. Consider it a prequel.

Facebook Kept 1,200 Page File On 24-Year-Old

Turns out, if you live in the EU, you can request a copy of
every piece of personal information a company has on you,
including companies like Facebook. What would that look like?
Well, for a 24-year-old Austrian law student named Max Schrems,
it looks like 1,200 pages of personal messages, photos, and
other profile data. Find out more on SecurityWatch.

*Editor's Note: Please Join Ziff Davis' Concern for Hunger
Fundraiser

And now for something completely different. As I mentioned last
week, Ziff Davis is raising money for Concern Worldwide this
holiday season. As part of that, some of the executives on staff
are fasting today, including me. I won't ask you to do that, but
I will ask you to log onto Crowdrise and donate a few bucks. It
is a good cause and if you bill it to your Amazon account, you
won't even have to take out your credit card.
