Proving Prevention Works We continue to prove that prevention works! In a village where more than half of the young boys and girls used to drop out of grade school to end up exploited in city red light districts, 42 of the 100 children in our scholarship program are now pursuing higher education—and 99% have stayed in school. Meanwhile, the Resource Center has been an unbelievable success. In fact, the number of students regularly attending the after-school programs, workshops, and weekend English classes we began last year has increased so much that we have already outgrown our original building! Generous one-time donations allowed us to install a small computer lab at the Resource Center and, thanks to the support of our growing number of Freedom Sponsors, we welcomed two key Thai staff members. Nim manages the daily after-school program at the Resource Center, providing incentives for our students to come learn and take full advantage of the educational resources SOLD has to offer. Worn works alongside the local community to develop sustainability programs. This summer, we began laying plans for a second classroom building. This will also allow us to have space for both play and study after school, especially during rainy season when everything happens indoors. With blueprints in hand, all we need now are the funds to start building. (Click here to give.) To keep pace with growth and provide ongoing, sustainable funding for our Freedom Project prevention program, we also need 150 people to give $4/week and join our Stand 4 Freedom Campaign. 100 percent of these gifts support The Freedom Project and everything it offers our students—mentoring, human trafficking awareness, the Resource Center, and more—helping ensure that the work we’ve begun together continues to thrive and grow.
