The country successfully launched a spy satellite today as part of its network of intelligence-gathering satellites. Another launch is expected next year. The new satellite will enable the Japanese military to keep watch on any given spot on the planet, during the night or day, regardless of weather conditions. JAXA, Japan's space agency, said that the launch was done from the remote southern island of Tanegashima and went off as planned, with the radar-equipped satellite functioning properly. JAXA launched another satellite in September of this year. While Japanese officials refused to provide details of the satellite's capabilities, it is said to be able to distinguish objects as small as one meter in size on the ground.
