| Posted: 24 Dec 2011 02:49 AM PST Technically Festivus was yesterday, but in case you couldn’t get the day off work and will be celebrating today, the link has more information on America’s favorite television-inspired Christmas alternative. Link Via Geekosystem |
| Merry Christmas From Teddy The Porcupine Posted: 24 Dec 2011 02:10 AM PST You may recall Teddy’s earlier video where he eats corn, but here he is getting into the holiday spirit with a delicious Christmas cookie. |
| How The Daleks Saved Christmas Posted: 24 Dec 2011 02:06 AM PST While Christmas would certainly be a lot more simple with a Santa Dalek, I don’t know that I’d consider it “saving” the holiday when they’ve exterminated everyone. Link Via Geeks Are Sexy |
| Posted: 24 Dec 2011 02:02 AM PST Did you know that Swedes love to watch Donald Duck on Christmas Eve or that Icelandic children are raised under the threat of a cruel Christmas cat? Mental Floss has a great article about Christmas traditions around the world, my favorite of which is the Gävle goat of Sweden:
I don’t know about you guys, but I want to be on a goat protection or destruction team next year! |
| 109 Cats Celebrating Christmas Posted: 24 Dec 2011 01:55 AM PST Cats get a bad rap for not getting in to the the holiday spirit, but plenty of felines do have a soft spot for the holiday. In fact, BuzzFeed has a great collection of pictures of kitties celebrating Christmas. From cats climbing Christmas trees to kittens playing with presents, the pictures are all simply adorable. |
| A Book That Teaches You How To Speak Wookiee Posted: 23 Dec 2011 11:57 PM PST This endearing little children’s book will bring out the Wookiee in your family tree, and comes complete with sound unit so you can hear the proper pronunciation of words in Wookinese Wookian Wookiee language. Guaranteed to be hours of fun for you and/or your kid, unless the gutteral sounds of Wookiees gets on your nerves, in which case you will probably want to burn this book! Check out the advert videos and see for yourself if you can handle the process of learning to speak like a true Wookiee. –via SuperPunch |
| Dark Knight Rises Trailer, Sweded Edition Posted: 23 Dec 2011 11:50 PM PST Everybody’s getting ready to see what the new Batman movie will be like, some are hoping it fails while others (myself included) pray that it’s as good as the first two or better. The folks that made this sweded version of the Dark Knight Rises trailer obviously have love for the film franchise, but that doesn’t stop them from having a bit of fun with the whole Bane’s voice thing, as well as putting some sweet cornball animation into the mix! Behold, and be amused! –via Ology |
| Posted: 23 Dec 2011 10:53 PM PST Here’s another snowman crime scene sure to make Calvin and Hobbes very happy. They’re impaled on the Ellifrett Structure at the University of Wyoming, and I can’t think of a more festive way to greet the students during the holidays, aside from staging a Santa Claus crash scene on the football field! |
| How Animators Send Some Holiday Cheer Posted: 23 Dec 2011 10:51 PM PST The holidays are in full swing, and everyone wants to share good tidings with one another in their own unique way via the interwebs. The animators in this group are no different, and they have a particularly endearing way of showing their love for the holidays. Enjoy this adorable short by Muckpuddy Animation of New Zealand, and head to the link to check out the other three shorts that are as stylishly diverse as they are charming. |
| Darth Vader Sculpted from Recycled Metal Posted: 23 Dec 2011 09:07 PM PST |
| Things That Should Not Be Leashed Posted: 23 Dec 2011 08:24 PM PST BuzzFeed brings us this silly little gallery full of chuckle-worthy images of bizarre things on leashes. Some of them are questionable in terms of strangeness (people leash their kids all the time, right?) while others are truly weird, and really make you wonder what we humans will be leashing up next? |
| 16th Century Memento Mori Rosary Posted: 23 Dec 2011 06:14 PM PST
From the Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, here's a 16th century memento mori rosary carved out of ivory featuring man on one side and skeleton on the other: Link - via The Hairpin |
| Posted: 23 Dec 2011 04:49 PM PST The Addis family loves Legos…a lot. As in, this 100,000 brick Santa Dalek isn’t their only massive Christmas creation. Every year they make an equally impressive creation ranging from giant nutcrackers to mail boxes to angels. This year’s Dalek is certainly my personal favorite, but the rest are definitely worth a look. |
| Anthony Bordain's A Krampus Carol Posted: 23 Dec 2011 04:45 PM PST I’m not sure how many No Reservations fans we have here at Neatorama, but if you caught Bordain’s Christmas special, you’ll not that this animation was lacking from the final cut. That’s because executives found it a bit too creepy. Personally, I found the Samantha Brown scene to be far, far more terrifying than this animation, but she gives me the creeps anyway. | 59-Year Old Woman Who Had Never Held a Hockey Stick Before Wins a Truck with One Amazing Shot Posted: 23 Dec 2011 04:44 PM PST (Video Link) Brenda Hewlet had zero experience with hockey, and even had trouble walking out on the ice. But she still made a shot that would challenge master players. From 114 feet, she drove the puck into a hole that appeared to be about a inch wider than the puck itself. For this amazing performance, Ms. Hewlet won a new truck from a local Ford dealership. -via Jalopnik |
| 15 Absolutely Adorable Holiday Treats Posted: 23 Dec 2011 04:41 PM PST To be fair, not all of these adorable treats are all that Christmasy, but those that are will certainly put a holiday smile on your face. |

| Posted: 23 Dec 2011 04:35 PM PST While that headline could be used for an article about modern-day Scrooges, I meant it quite literally. This fat kitty hates being dressed as Santa and its reactions are quite funny. Via BuzzFeed |

| This Is One Creepy Little Joker Doll Posted: 23 Dec 2011 04:00 PM PST Who would have thought that the deranged version of the Joker from the Dark Knight films would make a great getup for a little boy doll? Apparently someone from WorldBox, an Asian toy manufacturer who also thought it would be endearing to label the ads “Take Happiness Home”. More like “Your Kid Will Never Sleep Again”, or “Joker, Now With Diapers!” *shivers* Link –via SuperPunch |
| A Christmas Tree Made Out Of Bacon Posted: 23 Dec 2011 03:46 PM PST The guys from Epic Meal Time are no strangers to bacon, in fact, it’s safe to say that their entire career rests on the back of those sizzling strips of pork. But this time they have stepped up their game to an epic level, creating this monster Christmas tree made from over 2000 pieces of bacon, and registering at a whopping 272,000 calories! See if you can stomach this NSFW foray into culinary insanity. –via GeeksAreSexy |
| What People Wanted For Christmas In 1975 Posted: 23 Dec 2011 03:45 PM PST Concluding our look back at retro Christmas wishes, we check out the groovy gear people were digging back in 1975. Unlike previous decades, which were mostly about the toys, this one’s all about stylin’ and profilin’. And they even included the grown folks in this gallery of fashion regret, so take a gander and see what people put on their lists over 35 years ago. Pant sets FTW! |
| 22-Pound Marzipan Dead Pig Is a Gift for Two Young Children Posted: 23 Dec 2011 02:44 PM PST A far better choice than Barbie dolls, don’t you think? Jonas Laberg had to come up with a gift for two girls, aged five and seven. So, as you might expect, he made the form of a creepy dead pig out of twenty-two pounds of marzipan. | Enormous Eye of Sauron Back Tattoo Posted: 23 Dec 2011 01:00 PM PST What’s most impressive is the shading of the background (assuming that’s not just back hair). The husband of Boards.ie member whoopsadaisydoodles acquired this tattoo, no doubt to impress him/her. Link -via Geekologie |

| Did Neanderthals Have High-Pitched, Nasal Voices? Posted: 23 Dec 2011 12:00 PM PST (Video Link) What did Neanderthals sound like when they spoke? Apparently like Monty Python actor Terry Jones whenever he plays a female role. According to anthropologist Bob Franciscus, Neanderthals had, compared to modern humans, narrow vocal tracts, larger nasal cavities, and deeper chests. This video shows a man trying to simulate what they might have sounded like. Link -via Boing Boing |
| Man Orders Beer, Robs Bank, Returns to Bar to Finish Beer Posted: 23 Dec 2011 11:00 AM PST Do you remember that coworker who was always on break? He’s now turned to crime:

| Santa Cat Makeup Lady Is Cute, Frightening Posted: 23 Dec 2011 10:00 AM PST (Video Link) In full makeup, YouTube user AwakenRain looks just like a cat. But that’s not what’s so unsettling about this video. It’s that she sounds just like a cat at the same time. -via Fashionably Geek |
| What's on TV: 81 Christmas Marathons and Specials Posted: 23 Dec 2011 09:46 AM PST TV Line has a schedule of Christmas movies, specials, and marathons for today through Sunday. | Posted: 23 Dec 2011 08:45 AM PST The blog Hey! Look at My Toys! is hosting a contest for Christmas nativity scenes made from toys and action figures. The nine finalists are presented for voting. At first, I wanted to use a picture of the scene featuring a unicorn, then the one with Pee Wee Herman as Joseph, but then I saw this one by Nathan N. See them all at the site. | Posted: 23 Dec 2011 06:40 AM PST Redditor lahaff got his brother a Christmas gift and was determined to wrap it in a manner that would take all day to unwrap it. | Nothing Is True: An Assassins Creed Song Posted: 23 Dec 2011 06:37 AM PST As the description at YouTube says, “Blending was never Altair’s strong suit.” I don’t know anything about the video game Assassin’s Creed, but I still got a kick out of this funny geeky song! -Thanks, Eisenstein! |
