Table 926
Actually has like, 30 of them
926 Turquoise St; North Pacific Beach; 858.539.0926

Working with your father can be rough, and not just during the part where you end up having to hold his nuts. Errr, bolts. Whatever, this is a hypothetical situation! For a father-son project considerably less awkward than the previous sentence, check out Table 926.

After presumably building 925 tables they just couldn't get excited about, a chef just off a stint at The Cosmopolitan and his UCSD med-school-pathology-professor pops created 926, a multiple-ethnicity-influenced, "upscale casual" eat spot featuring a Spartan, wood-floored dining room with one fluorescent-backed wall o' wine, one LED-lined brick wall, and a couple of others mostly just comprised of wall. The chef'll be cooking up two to three specials a night and regularly switching up a lineup that currently includes all-stars like Trevor Hoffman! And maybe Jake Peavy, once Duck Carnitas "Street" Tacos with pickled red onion and tomatillo-avocado/ smoked chili salsas, empanadas stuffed with butternut squash or beef 'n potatoes, guajillo-tamarind glazed pork cheeks, and oxtail ragu over bucatini with lemon-mint ricotta.

To keep whistles nice and wetted, they're kicking things off with a 24-strong wine selection all under $65, and six rotating, craft-centric taps currently pouring favorites like Bear Republic's Racer 5 IPA and Stone's Arrogant Bastard, which is so strong that if Dad drinks it before putting together that shelving unit, everyone's screwed. Because he'll have trouble building it! Gosh, why are you even thinking that?

Warning: clicking this link will make you drool. But do it anyway.
