Garfield was a Civil War hero who became the youngest brigadier general in the army. Unfortunately, his term in office was very short (only 6 months) as he was the second president to be assassinated.
William Henry Harrison's death in office would be seen as the first in a long series of what became known as Tecumseh's Curse: Presidents elected in a year ending in a zero would die in office.
