Apple's Siri Doubles iPhone Data Usage


With the introduction of Apple’s (News - Alert) new Siri voice recognition software, iPhone 4S owners are consuming more than twice as much data as subscribers using previous editions of the smartphone, according to a new report published by network management solutions provider Arieso.


iPhone (News - Alert) 4S users download 2.76 times as much data as iPhone 3G users. “Voice is the ultimate human interface,” said Michael Flanagan, Chief Technology Officer adding that, “As you lower the barriers,” consumers will access smartphones features like Siri on a more regular basis. Flanagan states that iPhone 4S synchronization with Apple servers may also contribute to accelerating data consumption patterns.

Siri, introduced late last year in tandem with the iPhone 4S, enables users to employ a natural spoken language to access and perform device tasks like mobile search, messaging, and contacts. The technology (acquired by Apple in April 2010) essentially applies search algorithms to translate udders verbal search queries and commands into web searches.
